Oh man......you asked if I could help you out on your post. I'm the wrong person. I had luck with my 10 year old son. He got right up on his first try. Biggest tip is probably patience. My 8 year old doesn't have them. Hence gave up.
I did see someplace where they really described the skill of getting up. You might be able to go to SEARCH and type in GETTING UP. Others will be able to help you though. Sorry I wasn't much help.

patience on both ends helps enormously. also really think about how you get up, and itemize it into steps to tell the kid.
one thing that I have found that really helps to keep them in a good starting position, is to tell them to pretend like they are sitting in a really small chair.. that really helps with the leg positioning, but then you just have to tell them where to put their arms and not to pull against the boat, and to just let the boat pull you up. do not stand up too early.
Good Luck dude, and have fun _________________ Keep Austin Weird |

tell him to center his weight over the board, try not to muscle it. Umm when the boats pulling him he could stay in a crouched position and be fine but once the board is above the water stand up and turn the board to w/e he is(goofy regular)
i hope that works, im trying to remember how shaun murray explained it...i just know for sure dont muscle it, just keep a good grip on the handle or it will fly out of your hands. |

Arms all the way out and around your knees. Don't pull them in until you are riding sideways.
Knees to the chest. If they are toppling over they need to stay crouched longer.
From there you'll need to tell them whether they are leaning too far back or too far forward depending on what they do. Tell them to lean forward or wait longer depending... |

I'm a qualified instructor.
Most important tip - eye/head position. Keep looking at the boat.
I have taught and taught and taught and the most common mistake with waterskiing, wakeboarding barefootin etc. is that when people look down their head goes forwards, their back arches their arse sticks out, they are all out of shape. Next they fall in! If you look up your body position will remain tall/straight and correct.
Ask any of the pro riders and just about any trick is lead with head position (1s 3s 5s etc tantrum backroll etc.) _________________ Wakeboarding is so Kool in Ireland! |

I taught my cousin's son, who was 10 then. After he watched me a few times he kinda saw what to do. I told him to keep his arms bent, knees bent, lean back, and when the board is on top of the water to turn it and put his weight in his back foot. After each try I would assess what he had done wrong, AND RIGHT (that way he wouldn't get discouraged) on the 3rd try he stood up, but it was a few more before didn't fall over right to start with.
As has been said, patience is very important. Just think of how great you'll both feel when he finally gets it. _________________ Some female cows have horns, but you wouldn't really know anything about that now would you? |

Tell him to pull his life jacket down lol, thats gotta be uncomfy
speaking of that, tell them not to worry about their shorts or anything, because they take a hand off, then they are down. Unless they are coming off, do us a favor lol |

not sure if it will help, but when teaching youngsters, i get in the water with them their first few tries to give instruction. Has worked for my boat. After they go for a short distance, then i get back in the boat. _________________ Rise-Eat-Hit the water, and enjoy. |
