If you can't clear the wake or get any air off of it without a tower or pylon, you're not going to be able to with one. _________________ But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions -- it is by grace you have been saved.

I haven't actually timed it, so I guess it may not be quite that much. It definitely makes a huge difference though. It's the differnce between being able to grab a method solidly most of the time and being able to grab and hold it for enough time so that it actually looks good.
And Mr. Harp (better be nice, he might get me with that glock), who are you seconding, Wannabe? _________________

Devon,
Here are a couple of older posts regarding your question. There are some interesting attempts to use math skills to answer the ultimate question of tower benefit.

BobbyChicken, he was seconding you. And yes a tower most likely will give you more hangtime. _________________ It won't be easy, but when I get there it will be one of the most satisfying journeys of my life. |

Third'ed. I get way more hangtime too. They are on every serious wake boat for a reason. |

I'm glad you guys agree with me. Because if you didn't, I was going to have to ask when the last time you spoiled people rode behind a boat without a tower.
I thought Harp was seconding me at first, but then I was like well... I don't know, I better make sure. But anyways, now that I have some support I can speak my mind. A tower will give you a much smoother pull than a lower hookup. When you cut really hard you will be able to keep the speed and won't have to take all the tension out of the line to get good air like you do behind a towerless boat. When you first ride behind a tower, you will not really notice any difference in how high you go but you will go much further. My first jump behind a boat with a tower was my first w2w. To go a whole lot higher, you really need a biger wake along with the tower. I've never ridden behind a really good wake and my best jumps are a bit under 20 feet in distance and about 4 feet in the air if you measure from your low foot. Riding behind a tower feels completely different. It's really not like anything else I've ever done. You feel like you're just being held up in the air instead of like your jumping. On my first couple jumps I was like, wo, I feel like I'm flying. Why didn't I come down? So basically, you need a tower. I'd rather ride behind an outboard with a tower than a(n) -insert favorite wakeboat here- without one.
One quick question. Why aren't towers higher than they are? Wouldn't it get you even more hangtime if your rope was at 15 feet instead of 8? |

BobbyChicken, but wouldn't it look insanely stupid if it was at 15 feet? And wouldn't it have to be bigger and bulkier? _________________ It won't be easy, but when I get there it will be one of the most satisfying journeys of my life. |

The tower would look stupid, but you wouldn't if you were 10 feet up in the air. You would probably have to add a couple of peices going to the bow to hold it in place. Or you could do it radio tower style.
The difference would be that it would pull you up a little harder with a little more tension. But more importantly when you got big air the rope would continue to hold you up instead of pulling you back down. _________________

Does anybody here have the mad skills required to show what a stable 15 foot tower would look like on a boat? I don't even know how to combine two pictures so I can't photoshop it. I know that's pretty lame, but, hey, at least you know any pictures I post are real. But I don't know how to post pictures either so maybe not. _________________
