So, whenever I try a Raley a cut into the wake hard like you should, I get extended all the way, but when I try and pull myself back down to land i always get pulled into a huge front flip and eat it hard. Any suggestions?

Make sure you push the handle down towards the wake.

WakeLess, disregard CP3's suggestion. The EXACT problem you are doing is the same problem that every body does when learning a raley, and that is looking towards the shore. The key to a raley is having a 50/50 even cut weight distribution into the wake and when you take off, look directly at the tower and nothing else. When I learned raleys, i was first trying them at home and did not no what to do and was taking similar falls as you were, but I got a lesson and all he told me was, "just look at the tower the entire time" and i landed it a few tries later. The funny thing is and i still remember it to this day (and this was about 5 years ago) that when i learned the raley, I didnt even look at the wake when I was edging, only the tower. That is how important it is to look ahead. I really don't reccomend doing that but it is how i learned it. If you can post a video, i can tell you exactly what to do. BUT DO NOT PUSH THE HANDLE DOWN

dude this is trick tips, if the kid pushes the handle down, he is going to eath sh*t. I am trying to save him from a bad fall. my favorite thing about wakeboarding is seeing someone land a new trick. I DONT WANT HIM TO GET HURT WHICH COULD HAPPEN IF HE PUSHES THE HANDLE DOWN. this isn't non wake or general discussion, where you give opinions, it is trick tips where you help people learn new tricks they are trying. I will call out anybody who is giving the completely wrong advice in trick tips.

Thanks, I'm headed to the lake here in a few hours, I'll give it a shot. I'm a little spooked in trying it again because of a bad crash last summer trying one. I hit the side of my body and everything went numb for like 5 mins. Kinda scared me of Raleys. But, you only learn from eating water right?... _________________ I love Utah Lake... |

NorthwestRider, yeah its how you get your feet back under you but it surely isnt about how you initiate a raley which was his problem as he kept turning into flips.

all the tramp vids ive seen of raleys, they push the handle down as far as they can.
i read on one of these threads to think of "breaking the handle over your knee" to get your feet back under you. that may be right or wrong, but thats what i remember from reading up on the trick. _________________ http://www.myspace.com/muxpux

Ian_82, tramp raley has pretty much zero similarity, but if you think about it logically a raley is done exactly how it looks. You cut in as hard as you can, pop, and pretty much just put your hands over your head like "superman". To pull it down, i tell people to break the handle over their knee, but it isn't really neccessary, they come down pretty naturally.

CP3, If he is getting extended then going into a "front flip" which is actually a backroll, it means that he is not looking at the tower and instead is looking at the horizon, pulling the trick down is not the problem for him, it is the take off. If you can do raleys, you know that it is very easy to pull the trick down.

Thanks for all the tips, My main problem to clear up all the arguing is getting the board back under my feet.
Instead I hit the wake hard, I extend all the way, but as i swing my legs out it doesn't really stop the motion of my legs going up, which (now thinking about it) is probably my main problem. So this continues the extention of my legs behind me which keeps the momentum going upwards making me go over my head. So maybe I shouldn't kick my legs back so hard, and let them go out at a more softer pace? _________________ I love Utah Lake... |

WakeLess, if you are continuing the swinging motion into a flip, you arent looking at the tower, just keep your eyes on the tower, and you will stick it and never fall on it again
