it's cool if you're doing a lot of surface tricks. but off-the-wake tricks, it'd be kind of hard since there would be nothing pulling the rider.
trust me, my friends and i have thought this out already.

geeez hey since the water is being pumped around hella fast, it should be good for off the wake tricks shouldn't it? hahah

You would need to more than just the jets for the wake. Add enough water flowing back (see red arrows) to create a surface for the rider to initiate their cut and you might be able to do this. Then to get the shape of the wake you could do something similar to the wave house in San Diego except at a 15 degree angle (vs. almost 80).

I thought about this as well one time after seeing one of those artificial surfing waves.
You could do wake tricks as long as you can get the water pumped and flowin around 20mph. That might be the expensive part.
If I had the money I would try to design one. But ill let you do it.

I think someone here with lots of bank should hook this idea up...preferably in Knoxville.....or in my pool.

I'm sure thet with enough money it could be successful. There is a comercial for a cruise line out there that shows something like it, surfing and boogieboarding.
LoudenTN, do you know any riders with INT in your area? I was told that we were going to have a TN/KY challange event in Knoxville this upcoming year. Should be a good time. KY is only in their 2nd year of INT, but were doing OK.

We had an INT competition last year, not sure who coordinates all of it, but it had a really good turnout. More kneeboarders than I could stand but hey, we're all out there to have fun.

We have only had 1 kneeboarder at any of our competitions. Mostly wakeboarders, alot of novice riders, but thats what its all about. We are growing. Last year only 4 events, this year I think there will be 7. I met your states coordinator at the nashville boatshow, but I can't remember who they are. I'm not our states coordinator.

Yup I've thought of that exact thing 10 different ways till Sunday. At best it would be a simulation.
I'd love to have the money to give it a try and see where it would lead, who knows right.

Glen Mitchell is our state coordinator. We have a really good wakeboard scene here in East Tennessee. Helps that Mastercraft, Skiers Choice (Moomba/Supra), and Malibu all have their factories here. Last year we had our INT competition at Turkey Creek, where we keep our team dock. We had so many kneeboarders/skiers/skaters that it took several hours before we even saw a wakeboarder.
You can hit me up on PM if you want, or maybe even start a thread if you want to publically talk about this or get something going. Not sure if Glen Mitchell is on these boards, might have better luck trying his email, which I think is something like tennessee@intleague.com, actually that's it, and I found his phone number: (615)824-7593, it's listed on the INT webpage.
Anyways, sorry bout the thread Hi-jack, I like your idea! haha

Yeah it would! You'd have hickies all over whatever body parts hit the pickup grate. You could hook up a tether to the rider, but the water isn't going to stop instantly.

No, you guy are thinking all high tech....
The wash out would be like a water fall. You fall and the 20 mph water pushes you over the water fall into a pool of water where the rider can take his gear off climb out and walk back to the line for the next wake session.
Trust me I have thought about this for many years, a lot of low tech solutions could make this work.
The rope could be hooked up to a spring loaded device that would simulate line load so when you leave the wake you would get pulled forward a bit. still not the same as it is not a constant pull, it's a simulation!

I think the most plausible way to do this would be like a flowrider/wavehouse, but with more jets at a slower speed. Rather than a really thin layer of water flowing over the surface, shoot a thicker 6" - 1' of water over it and create a wake like shape with the surface. This would enable you to fall similar to a flowrider but have the feeling of a wakeboard.
Although part of the problem is that the flowriding surface is not that durable and you couldn't have a sharp edge on your board. It might be difficult to take a good cut into the "wake"

the water pressure will push you into one of the pool walls and trap you there...the people that control the water pressure will probably be reading a magazine or be busy doing something else while the pressure will slowly break every bone in your body
honestly it will probably be something like they have at the wave house...the pool will be so large that the water pressure will come to a stop before you reach the other side
this kind of project will need a sponsorship from the wavehouse...unless you are rich
the only thing that sucks is that there is no way to practice double ups or hitting sliders with this

I thought of this all on my own,tso techinically its my idea too, so I should get some money for it. I had to trash the idea though, I figured out that I only had about 45 bucks in my bank account so....whatever...

| I always wondered If it were possible to wakeskate in a river, if you were holding onto a rope connected to say a tree. Of course the river would have to be flooding for it to be flowing fast enough though.

I honestly didn't think this would turn out to be such a serious subject
Anyways, here is a new idea, similar to those plastic surf waves.
For the wake shape, I'm thinking like foam with a non-porous layer on top. The water should be deep enough to edge in.

An easier & less expensive option would be to warm the lake.
