|
|
| Hello all. I am a noob. I have only been out a few times. This past weekend I started riding switch. It was kinda painful at first cause I did a face plant. I think my heels actually touched the back of my head (not really, but it felt like it). Anyway, the way that I got turned was I did it when I just got up out of the water (following advice posted here). My problem is that every time I try to do a surface 180 at speed I can't get the board around. The fins on my board are fairly large and I guess that is what is keeping me from doing it. I thought about trying to ride up on the wake and do kind of a rail slide (excuse the skateboarding term) and get the board turned that way. Not sure if that will work though. Maybe I should get smaller fins. Anyway, any advice is welcome. Thanks! |

thats a butterslide when your up on the wake like that. try slowing the boat down a bit also you could try taking the fins off and taking them w/ you on the boat so if you have more trouble you can put them back on _________________ If your supposed to expect the unexpected, then the unexpected would be expected, so there wouldnt be any unexpected to expect... |

| Yea, I tried taking the fins off but the board gets really unstable when I do that. But that did work when I did it, I was able to get the board around then, but I like the stability the fins give me. I'll try slowing the boat down but don't know how much I will be able to. I have a 21' bayliner, not the best boat for wakeboarding, its ok for learning but not much else. |

My best advice for you would be to leave your fins on and just let it be... The more you practice it the easier it will come as usuall. Is there any way for you to ollie just enough to get the board half way out of the water? _________________

| ive just stomped fs + bs butterslides going about 14-15mph. when your in the slide put a little more weight on your foot thats going to be facing forward, and cut out with your heels keeping your arms bent a little, and that should put you through your surface 180. |

Hey...
This is how I learnt my surface 180s...
1. Slow the boat speed down to about 12-14
2. Get a good solid stance and bring the handle in close to your front hip
3. To make the switch, bring your handle to your opposite hip, and bend your knees pusing your hips behind and back (as if you're doing a squat).... this will help to bring your board edge firmly onto your heels and will raise your toes slightly out of the water which will keep you safe from face plants
4. Your behind hip should come to the front and when it does stand tall holding the handle firmly to your new leading hip.
5. If you find the switch stance difficult, let go with your back and and this will keep the board in the correct alignment while you get used to riding switch.
Best of luck!
Fiona. |

PS. As you get better speed the boat speed up and you will find you will be able to do them at full speed soon.
Also, you will find that you won't need to squat as much as you get better edge control.... |
