a friend of mine has a 99 with a titan tower......He puts the wedge down, and no sacs.....his rope length is about 60ft....I have edged and cut like hell and I can't get any height on my jumps.....I can clear the wake easy....but maybe 3ft of air tops...... (I can get plenty of height behind my boat)
I think he needs lengthen the rope (a lot) .....ad at least 1 sack......anyway if anyone rides behind this boat or a malibu with a similar hull.....please post pics of your wake, rope length, something...... what would you suggest for this boat...... I thought the hull was similar to the wakesetter?
Thanks!

I rode behind one last night. It's '01 Sunsetter LX (Direct Drive). He just had the wedge, and a sac in the ski locker. The wake was alright. I rode behind the same boat a few weeks back, but with a Fat Seat in the back and the wake was noticably bigger. I did have to ride on a shorter rope (65') than usual, to get to the sweet spot at 21 mph.
Another buddy has a '99 Sunsetter VLX (v-drive), with a 550 in the walkthru, and a 550 in each v-drive compartment, the wake is LARGE. No wedge. I can ride 75' on that boat and be in the sweet spot.
IMO, the wedge can sometimes have adverse effects on the wake size and shape. Just my opinion, though.
I'll try and dig up some pics.

| the hull is the exact same as the wakesetter, which needs tons of weight for a real good wake, wedge alone will do nothing for that boat

I have a wakesetter. As said in a previous post, this "hull designed specifically for wakeboarding" stuff is BS. The wake is ok with 600# in the locker and the wedge, but nothing to write home about. "Wake"setter. Jackasses.

for the best wake in a VLX, you need:
400-500 pounds of lead under the front seats (or a sac in the walk through)
550 in the ski locker
550 on either side of the engine in back (1100 total).
bringing the total to aruond 2200#'s...
wakes don't get much better than that.

| i'm not ripping on the boats at all, i think the fact that the boat is just a rebadged version of the "sunsetter" should tell you enough about the wake "specificity" (is that a word)

Wedge down, MLS (500#), 500# in the bow and 6 or 7 people.
I now have two 750 big bumps and I'll try to get pics of the wake this weekend.

Dude, I love my boat, but I don't love how the wake gets so hyped up, then turns out to be not any better than my buddy's i/o UNWEIGHTED wake.

That's a lot of people and 500# in addition to the stock ballast. NOW the wake is soemthing special, but WTF? They can't come up with a design that puts out a wake like that without all the extra weight?
I'm starting to think that all wakeboarding boats are is a ski-boat hull with minor tweaks that we are all just supposed to accept the fact that they aren't that special without a thousand extra pounds of balast.
Mcfatty, I have the 2003. Your MLS, I assume, is in the ski locker like mine is? So you have weitht in the middle, weight int he bow, and the wedge at the back, right?

| I have an 01 VLX... I tore out the MLS the first week I had the boat, and installed a Hypo system. I have 800lbs in the ski locker, and 600lbs on each side of the engine. I also have some railroad rail under the bow seats. That combo is nice.

| camera, for once I agree with you......why cant they make a heavy boat that you don't have to add so much weight to wakeboard specific? the wake on my i/o is huge with just one sack in the bow......granted its not as easy to drive.....the wake is wonderful and easy to achieve

Correct. Keeping in mind the wedge is a 1000# and nobody sits up front much. There had to be more weight for the bow.

I think I've only been behind one boat that didn't have ANY additional ballast (besides people and 150 lbs of lead to balance) and made a respectable wakeboard wake, was the Tige 24V. But, it had 6-10 people in it and uses TAPS. But the wake was sweet.
