Is anybody using a regular car cd player in their boat? Seems like the marine decks are a little more expensive, but are they really better...

Car stereo in some type of waterproof enclosure, If the boat doesn't already have one.

Well all the hype about water proofing is good but if your boat is going threw some big swells a cd will jump no matter what. The best way to go is a CD changer. I do not have on yet but after hearing all the skipping I usually just turn on the radio why crusing around the lake just checking out the sights.

I use a car CD player - it works just fine. Skips every now and then, but oh well...

I appreciate all the replys. My Clarion marine cd deck stopped working last summer. I didn't know if marine decks were made to handle harsher conditions, ie, humidity, shock. I'll probably just put a car cd player in and make sure the cover is down at all times.

We also use an mp3 car stereo...definitely the way to go...You save money, and still get just as good of a deck...I would invest in a waterproof housing though...Not sure but I think they go for about $30 at www.overtons.com

Car stereo. Just make sure the guy controlling it didn't just get out of the water or hasn't been drinking all day and tries to change the controls with a beer in his hand.
