If the Tea Party really orchestrated this, then "bravo" on one hand, and a WTF were you thinking on the other.

BUT

If this is due to VA's "open" registration system, and an effort by Dems to oust Cantor by voting for his opposition.... well I don't know if I should say kudos to them or worry for CA and our open primary system.

What is for sure, is this is very interesting. The local TV viewers should be gearing up for nothing but political attack ads for the next 5 months...

Cantor was one of the few getting anything done in Washington. The TP folks are too much of a line in the sand. You have to lose one battle to win others. Let the illegal kids have a chance at citizenship in exchange for, oh, I don't know, getting rid of Common Core and the national department of education or something HUGE like that.

This was the same issue I had with Ron Paul. I agree with 95% of what the man said. However, I knew that there was no way anything would get done. You can't vote no on everything and expect anyone to back you. It's ugly, but it's politics. At some point, you have to give a little. Rand gets that and I am worried that the TP folks will not back him for this.

From a FB conversation with someone that covered him for several years.

"Eric was a weak leader--more of a ladder climber than a leader. His constituency knew that. He never felt comfortable with them. They never felt comfortable with him. And when he stopped showing up in the district the window for attack of "He's more DC than one of us" was wide open."

goofyboy, I would agree that Ron could get more support if he gave a little - at least for a long enough period of time to effect change and where he could be in a better position to be more rigid.

It's not an issue of open primary... Open primaries favor leadership and moderates.

Cantor should have taken notes from Frank Underwood, "Vote your district, vote you conscience, don't surprise me..."

He didn't vote his district in favor of bigger steps, rather than incremental progress.

I know several congressional staffers that agree with this...

That said CA is sitting pretty is Kevin McCarthy takes over.
