I want to go for crows soon enough, so I can have them consistent by August or so. I have a consistent ts w2w, and ts fs 180. I can do crows on the tramp really well. This trick seems like more of a problem for me because of a mental block. It seems like everyone I have talked to have fallen pretty hard when learning this trick and smashed their face on one of their knees. Busted teeth out, broken jaws, smashed eye sockets ect ect. So I was going to give one a shot today, but its before I cut in I have this stupid vivid mental image of smashing my face on my knee. So whats the best way to approach this trick? Slow the boat down and throw it? Thats how i learned tantrums. So I;m thinking it might work again, not sure. _________________ well, i did have over 800 posts.. formerly natman |

I nailed myself a bunch of times learning tants and BRs, but for crows I went for about 3 gos at TSFRs, and kept sliding out and landing on my butt (which doesn't hurt at all), then tried a crow instead and got the second one I tried. If you can do them on the tramp and your TS W2W is consistent, I suspect you will find them really easy. I get them more consistently than HS inverts now - but I have flamed my fair share, and I have never taken a hard fall on them.
Don't believe the hype! |

Try chucking them on a skate first to get used to the rotation, this way you can dive in and not hurt yourself. Its a technique i saw someone use on a cable to get used to raleys and it really helps build confidence. I know exactly what is going through your head when you approach the wake, ima do it, ima do it, ima, HOLLLY KNEEE FACE followed by a ts w2w and a frustrated face when you land.
Just chuck yourself off a skate and you will think that you have been being a puss and go for it!
Its all about confidence. _________________ burrrap |

| You just have to do it...instead of thinkin about crashing and hurting yourself...think about the steps of the trick...cut in, ****ride all the way up the wake and feel the pop****. then throw the flip. see the landing. ride away. |

| I've heard about the knee to face impact when learning TS FR's...is it as much of a threat when learning the Scarecrow too? My TS w2w & tsfs 180's are locked in. Ready to try to some TS inverts, but I want to keep my grill intact. |

Sorry to bring this thread back to life, but I just thought that it's better than openning a new thread.
I am in the sae situation, I decided to learn the 360's instead of the scarecrow, jut becuase I scared of smashing my face. in addition to that I am doing it of a kicker so I am not sure if the damage can be even worse.
I have witnesses a couple pf accident with broken noses ect, and that is really what's keeping me from doing it.
I wondering if a backroll is harder than the scarecrow? maybe I could start there.
P.S. the scarecrow is a fs, just because the kicker that I am the most used to, the hs kicker is a bit more treaky, plus the walk back is a pain in the ass. |

i found that FS backrolls are easiest to learn off a kicker. its a very natural, easy rotation. just dont chuck it to early and you will be fine!
i also found that fs backrolls were easiest to build on. you can spot the water sooo early! _________________ i love lamp. Crikey |

I have not given trick advice in a long time so bare with me here.
IMO - One is not easier than the other it's really a matter of your skill set and what YOU are better at that will make one trick easier for you than the other.
Some people suck but can bust 4 HS inverts and have HS hero syndrome, meaning they wont even try TS tricks...
Other people are good riders but can't do a simple TS w2w but do TS 3s all day long, I ride with a guy like this.
The knee to the face stuff only happens when you huck and luck or close your eyes and or don't spot the landing but this is true for most all inverts.
I have seen kids eat lip on HS back rolls just as much as crazy crow attempts.
IMO - The trick to learning news tricks is working with your tendencies and strong points and picking tricks that fall in line with that..
for instance - I can't do switch HS 180's but I can do TS 3's and regular HS 180's all day long. _________________ PEACE

| Wow I never knew people were scared of scarecrow falls. I think theyre really mild comparatively. Just trip your first ones slightly harder than a TS frontroll so you will come around and land on your butt if anything, but youll probably just land really seated riding away. |
