I have talked my dad into looking at getting a boat and was wondering what would be a good used wakeboard boat to buy for under 35K. He wants one that is less than five years old preferably, and it does not necessarily have to be a v-drive because only a few people usually go out and ride at a time, so sacking it out is not a problem. Thanks for the help.

You can get an '01 or '02 x-star for under 35k. I guess that classifies as a good boat?

Here are some general options that come to mind for a boat in the general $30K-$35K range to get you started. Some might be a little higher or lower but it is a rough list.

'03 - '06 Centurion Avalanche / Cyclone
'04 - '06 Moomba LSV/XLV
'01 - '05 Malibu LSV / Wakesetter
'99 - '03 Mastercraft Xstar / X2
'98 - '02 Super Air Naut / Air Naut
'00 - '04 Supra Launch

There are Tiges, MBs, Calabria and others that might be worth looking but I do not have any first hand experience with them. Any of those boats above make solid wakeboard boats and when weighted throw good to great wakes. Several lines come in d-drive and v-drive options.

hyperlite30601, please refer to the following: http://forums.wakeboarder.com/viewtopic.php?t=59748

This has been hashed out so many times, one of the moderators took it upon himself to create a chart and thread and sticky it at the top of this forum.

Chavez I have looked at the chart many time but most of those boats are much older than five years. He wants something close to five years old or less.

Sure, his listings are more than 5 years old, but most of those hulls are still in production today.

For instance, the PS205 is the old X-Star, X-2, and the current X-1.
The CC SSN is the current SAN210.
The Malibu Sunsetter is the old VLX, and the current V-Ride.

Keep doing your research, and think outside the box.

chavez, Thinking outside the box might be to look at some other boat models that didn't make that list.

bmartin, not to brag - or to say that my list is the best thing ever made...

But that list really does encompass the boats that people talk about, as I have said so many times, IN REVERNT TERMS. The chart shows the boats that by all accounts, provide the best platform to build into a wake boat, on a modest budget. It is clearly stated that the list does not cover branded wakeboard specific boats because the deals are not necessarily found there. The deals are found in buying the hull that manufacturer x used to grow into the wakeboarding market.

There are a few additions that people have suggested that by rights belong on the list. Those are:
- 1995-2000 Sanger v210 (very rare, but a solid nomination)
- Certian Maristars (There are a ton. Kind of overwhelming to add all of them - but they absolutely deserve to be mentioned.)
- Nautique Excel - absolutlely should be on the chart
- Potentially the large v-drive Supreme that the Sky Supreme is built on - but to be honest I have never heard that boat talked about in reverent terms. And I am not positive that the v-drive variant has cracked my 30k mark although it must be close, and I am not personally a fan of that boat.

Hey - you can think outside the box all you want. If you want to get something newer, wakeboarding branded and specific, or if you are not on a budget - that is your perogative and your options open up greatly. But if you are on a budget, and still want one of the boats that the industry loves, and has adhered to and built into best selling wake boats that have been verified time and time again by rider after rider... then seek the chart.

WakeboardReport, I think the list represents good work, especially for the tow boats boats with great wake applications priced below $20K and think that is a great place to start. I ahve personally been behind the hulls of most of those boats. Once you get into the $20-$30K range, I think the used tow boat market opens up quite a bit though. With just a minimial amount of patience and searching, just about all wake specific boats built before '02 and several built before '04 can be had for less than $30K now a days and many of them will stack up pretty well compared to the reverant ones.

I have seen several replies to posts where there is a link to yours that goes something like; please refer to this list - end of story. Well that is not quite the end of the story, a good beginning to one yes, but as you state on the list, it is incomplete and IMO underepresents boats in the $20-$30K range and this guy was looking for something in the $35k range.
