I have a 2003 X9 with very tight steering. My question is, is this something I can easily adjust myself or is it something I'll have to have a mechanic handle? Has anyone had any experience with doing the work themselves?

You probably need to replace the steering cable.

It's pretty simple, buy the new cable from your dealership, or I hear that http://boatfix.com has them for cheaper, and then tie a rope on your old cable, loosen it all up and pull it out. Then use the rope to pull the new steering cable back into place.

Thanks DRAGON88. I just talked to the dealer and that is exactly what they told me if I wanted to do it myself. Otherwise the cable would be $200 plus $200 for labor. I'll give it a shot.
