93-97 ski nautique for wakeboarding?

i am wondering how a 1993 through 1997 model ski nautique would be for wakeboarding. We would put a tower and ballast in it... how would the wake be?

My friend had a '95 and much preferred riding behind my '88. Even with a lot of ballast in his boat he said his wake wasn't as firm as mine. But mant people feel the old 80s Nautiques throw the best wakes for a used boat out there. I'll admit though that the 90s look a little better and more modern than the 80s SNs. I'm sure you could have a greaty time behind either one regardless.

The OLD school ski nautiques... Before 1992 I think, have the same shape hull as the current Super Air Nautiques.... Something to think about....

DMB, the SAN hull is "based off of" the Nautique Excel. The Excel was based off of the Barefoot Nautique.(has a pronounced V at the transom and came with a big block 454 motor) The 95-05 Super Sports are Super Air Nautiques. 93 is when they stopped using wood with the exceptions of trim pieces and the swim platform. Pre TSC hull(97) Sport Nautiques I believe have a hull very similar to if not exactly the same as the SAN.

Anyways, yes the old 2001 Nautiques throw one of the best if not THE best wake for the money. However, the question was about 93-97 Ski Nautiques. It will throw a very nice wake weighted down. As I said though in 97 they switched over to the TSC (Total Surface Control) hull. This hull is like a shrunken version of the Air Nautiques (98-02) and will throw a very nice wake.

Honestly It's not going to be holding you back if that's your question.

I disagree. In terms of hull evolution, I see it more like this:

SN 2001 -> 90 Ski? (Don't know as much about these) -> 93-97 Sport -> Super Sport/Super Air

These hulls all share the smooth bottoms, keel "bulges", flat transoms, and tapered chines.

Barefoot -> 90-92 Sport -> 91+ Barefoot/Excel (v-drive)

These hulls all share the lifting strakes, v-shaped transoms, and lack of tapered chines.

That's why I was surprised to see it suggested that the Super Air was based off of the Excel hull. The hulls are about as different as two Correct Crafts can get. The only notable similarities between those boats that I can think of would be the open bow and the v-drive.

Also, while the Ski Nautique 2001 and original Barefoot Nautique looked remarkably similar above the water line, the all new Barefoot running surface was vastly different.

My '96 Nautique throws a wake that laughs anything from the 80's and most newer Nautiques as well. Not many boats fatter than mid 90's Super Sport Nautiques....best bang for the buck period, regardless of what any of these dudes say.

bang for the buck? i paid 2k for my '85 2001 and put in 2k to get it fully operational. what'd you pay for your '96 again?

Just had to put in my two cents, I know for a fact that my 95 ski throws a better wake then just about any boat out there. (bold statement I know!) I have a friend with a new wakesetter a friend with a new mobius, and we ride on several different older boats as well and everybody agrees that PROPERLY WIEGHTED my boat will throw the largest wake. Way bigger then the mobius and about the same as the wakesetter just alot steeper. And as far is it being mushy, that not true at all! The first thing that everybody says after riding my wake is that its the hardest and steepest wake they've ever ridin on. With a tower you'll be golden, my boat does get just a little bit of roll when a large rider cuts too hard, which in turn will mush the wake a little on one side, but its the opposite side your going to be hitting.
