Up, over the shoulder, back....is it usually based on what you need to do to correct poor body position?

Not sure exactly what your question is, but yes, up and over your trailing shoulder. Get you hands down to your hips as much as possible helps too. If you are getting good pop and not leaving too early, it should be easy. I had problems riding out of mine at first, but after a dozen falls I found the groove and stuck them very regularly.

Being tall?

keeping your hands down at your hips will increase the rotation speed making a backroll easier.

Keeps the rope at yor center of gravity so you are essentially spinning around that point. If your hands are extended it throws your spin off center and whacks out the rotation.

jt09, I think you mean leading shoulder.

But I actually just tilt my head and shoulders to my tail. I don't think my eyes or head actually point over my shoulder although I hear some people do it that way.

In my explanation: Trailing shoulder = shoulder farthest from the boat. Leading shoulder = shoulder closest to boat.

I see what you are saying though Brad.

Most of my rolls look like mexirolls on camera, although in my mind I am looking up and back.
I fold and dip my shoulders forward on the rolls, any good "key thoughts" I should have going up the wake to do the more traditional progressive roll?

I always look over my leading shoulder. Basically chin to shoulder and gradually look up (relative to the body - basically at the water) to spot the landing.

Rope at waist for the rotation and then drop the back hand for the landing. But that's just me.

Looking over my forward shoulder is causing me to fold forward into a mexiroll.
Maybe I need to think about tipping my trailing shoulder (reg foot=right shoulder)toward my back foot?
any thoughts

Heres another thing to try-do the backroll with two hands the whole way through. They feel so much better and will help prevent you from doing mexirolls.
