Well, i had to take a week off work, so i could actually motivate myself to build it. But it is done, for now.
The basic specs:
1.5" cold rolled mild steel .120" wall
.188" hot roll flat stock for mounting plates on each side of the hull
.25" rubber floor mat used to isolate the mounts on each side of the hull
5/16" bolts to hold it on.
.75" chrome tow ball for rope attachment
and painted with a super thick coat of tractor enamel from TSC.
bent with a JD2 model 3 6.5 CLR die
welded with a Hobart Handler 180
I didn't really have much inspiration and didn't look at any pics as i was building it. It is definetly different and i like it a lot.
The most important thing to me was making it strong, and by creating a truss type structure with the tubes it has amazing lateral stability, no sway at all. My dad's old Wake-air tower used to wiggle going down the road. I didn't want that. The windshield bar helps add strength and also gives a place to step when boarding the boat from the front. I always hated to see my friends rest their hand, or step on the windshield.
I reused the "fingers" i guess you would call them off an old rack that used to mount to the side rails. and welded a piece of 1.25" tube to the tower to put the little finger pieces on.
Next up is speakers of some sort up there.
I hope y'all like it. |

Looks interesting but still works great with the boat. It looks pretty sturdy too. Good job! _________________

thats the best looking 200 dollar diy tower ive seen. Most in that range are half ass and made of flimsy materials and have horrible lines... I'd weld in some gussets for added strength at the joints and a little extra appeal... looks good! _________________

Would you be interested in trading the Hyperlite Fluid for two gator boards?
