Hey everyone. This looks like a chill forum where people actually help people out so i thought i would give it a shot.

I am 19 live in Maryland, basically on the Chesapeake Bay and I want to pick up wakeboarding this summer. I am a avid snowboarder and body boarder (somewhat surfer). I love anything boarding in general (except skateboarding no offense haha) an i had a sort of epifany about a week ago about starting to wake. so I been reading a lot into it, looking up all i can, getting mag's that sort of thing an im really stoked to give it a go.

I am down for buying a board and not shy to spend some money. i have been reading a lot of other newbie post an going to online boardshops to find deals and found one http://www.evogear.com/outlet/wakeboards/hyperlite-era-wakeboard-boots-2006.aspx I am wonderign if this is a good buy or if people could point me in the right direction. I feel like since i am a all around boarder i am not a complete novice and can dish out some cash on some good gear if it can help me out.

Also my family owns 19 1/2 Challenger with a 90 Mercury outdoor motor. Is this good to use? and if so is it still good even if i dont have all the hieght bars or whatever?

I appreciate all the help guys and girls. I really look forward to get this thing rollin and becoming passionate about this sport. If you could just help me out, point me i nthe right directions, give me some tips that would rock. Thanks again

-Scott

Not a bad board, but keep checking around on ebay and stuff. If I were you I'd worry more about bindings than the board itself. If you have any shops around that have wakeboarding gear go see if you can demo some different setups. Be sure to try some that have rigid support and some that are looser to find out what you like. Try a few boards as well if you can.

Keep looking at older stuff too, no sense in buying something brand new when you're just started when you can get last years model for half price.

ya thanks bro, the problem is being where i am in MD there really isn't any board shops. Wakeing is pretty big here since we have the Chesapeake but I have been tyin to search around an really no luck with actual shops i can go visit, so thats the negative. I dont think ill be able to demo anything.

scottayschop, Keep looking for a wakeboard shop. I don't buy that there aren't any available. I used to live in the DC area and there are lots of skate shops, which most of the time have wake products.

Secondly, try going to a boat shop that sells primarily wake/ski boats (inboards, Malibu, Mastercraft, etc) and you'll usually find yourself a proshop.

Your boat will get you up and you'll be able to learn and progress on surface and light air tricks. Inverts will be tough without a tower.

Good luck.

scottayschop, It's a learning tool, which is what you need right now. I would worry about advanced stuff once you learn the basics.

like oshensurfer, said you dont need a tower and inverts will be harder but i use a 17foot boat with a 90 outboard with a ski pole and i landed my first inver last saterday. as for the era board, it is ok but the bindings tend to break

ya i am jumpin the gun, just wonderin ya know thanks for the insight though. Im glad to know my boat can pull it off though, thats a big relief.

What should i look for in bindings and a board? i know will be a beginner but i dont want to get something just cheap just simply because im a begginner. I would like a board that is a good overall where i can grow with it. Since i am use to other types of boarding i feel thats kinda an advantage. Thanks again

Comfort...durability...IMO the most important things by far....

If they don't fit well or they pinch or whatever you are going to be miserable, try them on at a shop or something before you buy them if possible.

scottayschop, wakeboarding is a great sport to get into. However, there is a line that some people on here see and others dont. That is, buying local. I will not lie and say I never buy online, as at times, it is just easier for me to do. However, you can call boardshops and tell them what you want. Also, sometimes you can drive just 90 miles to find what you need. I always make it a point to hit a couple of boardshops in other cities when I travel out of town.

As for boards, look into CWB. I believe they are leading the market right now with cutting edge technology and their team is made up of great guys. However, pretty much all the pro riders are cool dudes. At your level, I think a Pure by CWB would be a nice choice. However, since you have a pretty good background in boardsports, you could more then likely handle an advanced board. Thus, you might would be really happy with either a Transcend or Absolute. They make both these boards in platinum versions, but the shape is the same. The core is just a tad stronger. If you start looking into CWB and find what you want, I will sell you one that I guarntee you cant have anyone else beat.

As for the bindings, I love the hinge tech that CWB has out now as well. Makes getting into a binding just cake. Look into them, do a little research, and again, if you find anything that you like, I will get you a strong discount on the 07 products.

Lastly, have fun with the sport. If you suck for a while, dont get discouraged. We all have sucked at one time. Again, just have fun!

oshensurfer, give me a call bro. I lost my phone (broke) and dont have your number. I owe you an explanation on why I flaked out on the last ride session... And I will tell you my summer horror story.

I just figured you were too wiped to ride. No big deal. I'll give you a shout soon.

scottayschop, I still can't ride worth a crap, so in a seriousness, just have fun with it and don't get too caught up in what the coolest stuff is or looking like a bad ass.
