So i have been thinking of getting another battery in the boat for the stereo to run off of. I know that this is common in some boats where there is a pretty beefy system.

We have a $2000 professionally installed system that has 4 speakers in the cabin; 2 tower speakers; a sub, and 2 amps ( one 2 channel and one 4 channel), and a 10 disc mp3 cd changer.

We have had this system for a couple years now and everything works great. However I am always hesitant to leave the radio on when we are relaxing on shore in fear that it will drain the battery and that would not be good.

I know batteries are not that expensive so i was wondering what everyone thought about adding a second battery?.....

Also how difficult is it to install and rewire?

Lastly on a side note has anyone installed an electric cooler in their boat? I was also thinking of getting an electric cooler and hardwiring it to the second battery.....something small that can hold 10-20 waters or something.

For batteries anyone that has a stereo with added amps and speakers should definatley have to, just the more power to the amps. We have 2 batteries wired together, the shop did it, but its just a lead off the second battery to the first so neg to neg and pos to pos but its run through a perko switch so the pos has to go to that also need a 2 to wire distributer and fuse. its not complicated but does take some time. However it could be much different than i am explaining because i did not do it on my own, we were thinking about putting the second battery into our previous boat but it sold before that happened.

Yes, you'll want a second (or even third) battery so you'll have some peace of mind when the engine's not running...

There are a number of ways to do this and as many opinions on "how to"...none of which are overly complicated - batteries CAN be expensive...

There are at least a couple of threads on this subject and the various setups for doing it. I would run a search and include terms like isolator, combiner, or battery switch. Tons of info out there.
