|
|
Are any of these components going to be problems for me as far as quality sound or reliability?
Here's what I'm considering having installed:
Four 6x9 Alpine SPS 69 C2 in a Bat Box with a Zapco 360.4 amp
JL Audio 10w3v2 subwoofer with a Zapco 350.2 amp
I'm keeping the four in-boat stock speakers and Alpine 9883 for now.
Thanks for any help/feedback! I'd rather not spend the cash for this, then feel like I made a bad decision. I'm not looking to be the loudest on the lake, but would like for the wakeboarders to be able to hear a crisp, loud tune.

| I posted this one after the post in the "accessories" forum wasn't generating a response. The responses will decide which one gets "run with".

Meltz, thats pretty childish. Why do you need to know any quicker if the setup is any good? Have you purchased this junk yet?

Posting in two separate forums is childish? I think your reaction is childish. Thanks for the useless post. Appreciate the insight.
If you think the products I listed are junk, I'd love to know why, or what you think would be a reasonable alternative.
I think if you could read, you'd know whether or not I've already purchased this by reading my initial post. I would like to purchase something this week which is why I was seeking faster responses.
For the record, I initially posted in "accessories" because I felt it was the most relevant. I started noticing discussions about sound systems in this forum, and this forum seems to get more posts. Seems logical (and adult) enough to me.

ok - down boys... I only commented because I know that as a general rule on forums, people get pretty pissy whe someone posts the same thing in multiple places... just link back to your other topic so people can work from one place.
Meltz - have you tried searching for those models on here? I haven't tried myself, but there's a chance others have talked about it.
Do some research on the options within your budget, then search around and see which one seems most popular. That's the quickest thing you can do. If you have the luxury of time, you can wait for opinions of others, but if you're in a hurry, just search the web and see what you can come up with. absolute worst case, if you don't like what you end up with, sell it off and get something else. Or, go the route I'm thinking of - try a new boat, so you get a clean canvas

I've done several searches. I haven't found much in the way of my specific models, at least nothing that sounded like a technical review. I know the whole "search" thing is another topic people get pissy over. Some people are just pissy.
The reason I'm asking is so that I won't have to sell it off later. The system being recommended to me as it stands is over $3k. I know some people put thousands more into their systems, but if I'm going to drop that kind of change on a sound system I'd like it to be the one and only.

Meltz, whatever. You are the one asking remedial questions in multiple forums...
Look into NVS speakers, and follow that up with a couple of Kicker amps to power them. Then, add a Kicker 1200.1 amp and either a Kicker L7 12, or a JL W7 13. Dont forget to add another battery or two to run this. I like the Optima marine. All money well spent. Just because you have the power doest mean you have to crank it all the way up...
Now you can continue with your tyrant of stupidity.

| spend money on a speaker system...not even going to start with the insults or waste of money comments.,,,just remember, MTV cribs is not going to be doing a show about your boat so don't bother...IMLO (in my logical opinion)

| why not do a search and go with a system similar to what someone else is running? maybe try a search for "sound system" or "stereo system" or maybe, im just throwing this out there, "what system are you running?"

blaydeman, Because I won't know how much knowledge they have about components. Just because Joe Schmoe loves his speakers, that doesn't mean much to me. I want to know if the wakeboarder will hear the music loud & CLEAR. I was really hoping for someone with technical knowledge to know the products I listed.
Blake, I'm really not interested in trading insults. Are the components you recommended THAT much better than what I listed? If so, in what ways will I notice? NVS is too expensive. I don't plan to crank it all the way up. Like I said in post 1, I'm not looking to be the loudest on the lake.

To get really crisp clean sound back to the rider (in th most affordable way possible) you'll want horn loaded compression drivers ala NVS or Wetsounds. I think you're better off with 6 6.5" coax than 4 6x9's. I have 4 Polk DB650's on our tower and they sound good, but you have to really crank the volume to make them audible to the rider.
Your components look fine, I just don't know if they're going to have the results you're hoping for...

Meltz, fair enough then. NVS is my personal favorite out of the horn loaded compression driven speakers. However, wetsounds can be found on many boats and do sound well. You can also mix and match if you like. I have seen a system done with two NVS tyrants, and two Polk. It sounded well, and I could hear the wing speakers fine, which were the NVS. The main problem with what I see from your setup that you are looking into is the fact that the rider will be yelling turn it up so they can hear it, and the others in the boat will hear the distortion and want to turn it down. Again, they do cost some money, but far better in the long-run which you are going for. The only other downside is the simple fact they (Wetsound and NVS) are very power hungry. However, nothing is worth doing unless you plan to do it right. I dont mean to insult you, but it is rather annoying reading the same topic twice in two different forums. I opened it up, and thought I clicked the wrong tab. Once more, save the money and do it right.

Jumping up to 4 Wetsounds Pro 80's with Zapso 750.2 amp.
JL Audio 6v2 sub with a separate 750.2 for that one.
Wasn't planning on $5k system, but I shouldn't have to upgrade. Thanks so much for the replies.

You won't be disappointed in that system you just specced out. How much of a price difference was it?

Well, the Pro 80s are about 3 weeks out. I was going to go with the Pro 60s, but I'm thinking the Pro 485's might be better sounding. Each of the 4 Pro 60s would have the horn loaded compression driver (HLCD), while if I got a pair of the 485's I would have 4 8-inch speakers, but only 2 of the HLCDs.
Would you recommend 4 Pro 60s or a pair of Pro 485s?

wetsounds1, I saw your speaks on BG's boat. You've got a good thing going and have some nice product. I was really impressed.
I'm partial to the NVS, though as I know NVS's product when powered right, but both are stellar performers and will make your ears bleed if you want them to.
Meltz, I would wait and save up for some better product such as wetsounds or NVS. Otherwise, I would go round rather than 6x9s. My personally opinion is bigger is not better for the tower. But, if you want bump, then put the money to a good amp and sub. If you go with 6x9's, just make sure you power them adequately.

wetsounds1, I can't say enough about your customer service! I am so glad to have been directed towards your product. Given the reviews I've read about your products, I'm sure the quality will match the customer service. You've got my business and praise!
Ended up with: 2 pair of Pro 485s. Those, along with the 4 stock boat speakers will be powered by the Zapco 1000.4 amp. The JL Audio 10v6w3 will be powered by the Zapco 750.2.
tonality, Price jumped from $2700 for the original Alpine/Zapco system to about $5200 (OTD including install) with the Wetsounds, upgraded Zapco amps & sub. Having extra battery installed also.

wetsounds1, I have heard them many times, but would love to take you up on your offer. Just find me and we will compare systems if you like. I would love to swap over speakers or a system for that matter when I sell my boat at the end of this summer. I am looking into the Wakesetter, after everything Billy has said about it. Anyways, I will be back in Austin this weekend, just cant decide which lake I want to launch on.
oshensurfer, there was so much rain in Waco this week, that they closed the lake. I had to refund so much needed money because campers werent able to go out next week instead. Want to loan me 2k in cash? Bah, I guess its back to slangin rocks for this guy! Would you be up for a trip this weekend? You still havent made it out on my boat yet!

<EDIT> 485s will have their own 1000.4 and the sub & 4 in-boat speakers will share another 1000.4.
Might eventually upgrade to the wetsounds in-boat speakers. The audio shop might even let me trade back the JL sub for the wetsounds sub once they're available in a few weeks.

I didn't get anywhere near water this weekend. Had a wedding to go to...

TP83, Low enough to make you duck when you're stepping from the sundeck to the boat bottom. I'm going to guess 10", but I think a PM to wetsounds1 would be a better bet, like you said. Believe me, it's worth ducking!!!!!

You definitely made a good switch from the w3 to w6. You get sooo much more bump with the w6
