Use a common ground between the batteries and use an 85 amp or 100 amp relay that connects the batteries posative terminals when the ignition is on and seperates them when you are sitting around without the motor running. Hook up all of your stereo equipment to the extra battery and only the boat to the main battery. _________________ Hot Women, Phat Boats, and Sweet Rides make the world go round! |

like the above mention I just hooked a switch inline between the main battey positve and the secondary battery positive. hook your accessary to the 2 batt and when your just chillin with the boat off and the accessary on flip the switch to the off positon so it doesnt drain the main battery _________________

This site gives a fairly good description of the setup (so you can make it automatically switch). I'm not recommending their product - I just found them on the web. It sounds good, but not sure if it's worth $140.

You could use a starter solenoid instead of a relay. It's hard to find large relays without ordering them through a battery or stereo shop. _________________ Hot Women, Phat Boats, and Sweet Rides make the world go round! |

No do not use a starter solenoid. They are made to use for short durations (during starting). You want a solenoid made for constant use. I would look into a relay or go ahead and buy an isolator. If nothing else, just go ahead and buy a battery switch.
Just don't skimp out on the right parts. The last thing you need on a boat are electrical problems (or fires)....
