We are looking into a brand new wakeboard boat and came across an 06-08 brand new mastercraft x-star. we've heard about the engine blowing out problem but my dad thinks with a new wakeboard prop would eliminate that problem and we don't think we load our boat down enough to blow an engine. anybody have one, ride one a lot or heard anything bad about it? any suggestions are appreciated.

yeah, thats where we heard about the engine problem. but i guess i was wondering if thereis anyone on here that would know the chances of us ruining the engine if we get the right prop and don't load it down a ton.

and hollywood, sorry about the sens, i was pulling for them

Engine blowing?

Search the forum.

I'm thinking I've never heard of someone complain about their engine blowing due to a prop, for an Xstar or any other boat on this site....

I don't know about the wrong prop, but mine will blow up if I turn counter clockwise. It's nuts.

Would be so much nicer if the children of boat owners would stay off these sites. Sorry you can't get a straight answer, albino. Wish I had some insight for ya.

albinoblacksheep, engine blowing up is a engine mfg problem, not really a hull mfg problem. That said, I have not heard of this problem and I highly doubt a prop would cause it as these engines do have rev limiters.

They are pigs. Simply put. They are very heavy, and still require a good deal of extra weight to get that kickass wake. As such, they drink gas, they turn like crap, and just aren't worth it.

They also have a tendency to go submarine thanks to the picklefork bow and the ton of weight that you end up putting in them. And when they submarine they scoop serious gallonage. It's like using a snow shovel to shovel snow instead of a pickaxe.

To top all that off, they really don't ride all that great in poor conditions.

That said, they are finished nicely, and do have tons of space and can produce an OK surf wake.

Straight enough answer?

chavez,
thats well but, but I will say they don't have a great amount of space. The wake setters have much more room.

WakeboardDrumma, there are hundreds of boats that have more room, but simply put the X-Star does have a good amount of space. Nobody asked for a comparison.

WakeboardDrumma, any boat where there are several compartments where my fat ass can physically get inside, close the door, and hide - well I deem those boats to have a LOT of storage space.

Is the X-star a wakeboard boat or Cargo ship?

I personally think x-stars are over priced/rated. I dislike all the fiberglass on the interior, dont like the look all too much, done like the seats and the vinyl used, underweighted for a big boat therefore you need to load it, I dont know they dont apeal to ME all too much, everyones different though. I just cant justify a 90k tag on one.

hell no, me either cresko. Why go buy one of those when you can go out and buy a 3 or 4 or maybe even newer than that SAN or something that is a known great boat for half the price that you would pay for a boat that apparently has alot of issues that need worked out? I know what I would do but like you said, everyone's different.

SAN's are damn good boats. They have been good boats for as long as I know and they seem to keep going strong.
