all of last season i was riding around 18 and now im up at 20. do you think i should take it up to around 22-24mph? i can deffinatly handle the speeds, im just wondering since the faster you go the harder water is. so if i went faster would it help my pop any? i already get 4 ft of air on average, and my best airs are around 6ft probally. but i dont get those every time i go out. _________________ sh1t happens when you party naked |

23.5 is my speed at '80 behind a VLX. Bump the speed up as you progress until you're around at least 22-25. A lot of speed has to do with wake shape as well for non wake specific boats. _________________ wakeboards

20-21 mph when I'm working on spins.
21-22.5 mph most of the time.
I/O's are a bitch to keep at a constant speed so it might be juggling around 19-24 the whole time. _________________

I GPS'd my boat last week cause I thought I was going pretty fast at 20mph and I was actually about 2mph faster so 22mph.
slower if I'm trying something |

| I prefer 24-25 unless there isn't much weight in the boat, then I may slow it down to 22-23. |

22.5mph at 75 feet feels pretty good on my boat. Fairly narrow wake compared to my friends VLX (I have an 07 SSV) so probably need to bump it up to 23-23.5 and go 80'.
Like most of the others, slow it down to about 19-21mph when trying new tricks. |

| macdaddy07, ride with whatever you are comfortable with. Just try out different speeds and rope lengths. |

Ride at what speed you feel comfortable at that is fast enough that the boat
1. planes out
2. the wake isn't washing over
3. is firm enough not to bust through on cuts
4. so that on a good cut you can go wake to wake no problem, if the boat is going at a comfortable speed yet you land in the flats everytime lengthen your rope
Everybody rides at different speeds all depending on several factors
boat
wake shape
rope length
water depth, or substance (you will ride slower on salt water or brackish water because it is harder, and shallower lakes will ride slower to get a bigger wake)
board (yes board if you have a fast board your boat speed will be slower)
and skill level
Experiement with your conditions, use what people have said as a starting point but there is no right awnser
Oh by the way I ride at 24.5 to 25 with an 85 foot rope _________________ Shane Cook

| I ride at about 22-23 behind out Bu, and wherever the wake is at its best shape behind everything else. Adjusting your speed by 2-3 MPH really does not change the falls dramatically if that is your concern. |

I have been between 24 and 26 since I started. Wake has a nice shape and is firm, and I am just comfortable at that speed for some reason.
Just try a bunch of speeds to find out what works best for you. |

It varies. Normally, If i'm behind an inboard, the wakes aren't too bad going around 20.
Behind an I/O, well that can vary a lot. |
