|
|
Hey all,
I had reoccurring events of water intrusion into my oil bath hubs. I flushed it out last year, but it came back soon after. I got some seals from my dealer (my bearing inspected fine) and went at it. I figured I'd document it (as I normally do) for others that might have a similar setup.
Please keep in mind that I am not a mechanic. I did what I understand to be the correct method. Others may have tips to offer or errors to point out. I encourage both!
Thanks and enjoy!
EDIT: Sorry about all the spelling errors in the picture captions. I guess you can still figure it out. _________________ 2018 MasterCraft XT20

Last one!
As with any project like this, the first side is the longest side because you are feeling your way thru it and don't know the methods that will work. It probably took me 1/2 of the time to do the 2nd side as the first. The first side might have taken me 2hrs. The 2nd side maybe 1hr. I could probably do it in even less now.
Anyway...I hope it helps someone, sometime. _________________ 2018 MasterCraft XT20 |

Thanks Phat, I figured that out the other day. I had remembered this thread from long ago and recently noticed water (soupy oil) in my hubs. I am tackling this task myself today thanks to this thread. However, if I fark it up, I'm blaming you too! Just kidding, thanks for the post, will probably save me some money today. _________________ Check out https://www.facebook.com/darcizzleoffshore |

Good luck.
The 2 biggest pains that I recall are getting the aluminum cap off (and back on) and getting the seal out. The cap was definitely the more challenging as you need to use 'tough love' to get it off and on w/o damaging.
Make sure you don't over-tighten the bearing nut. Feel how loose/free it is when you take it off and mimick it going back on. I think a general suggestion is to put it on snug and then back off a 1/4 - 1/2 turn. Make sure there's no 'rocking' of the wheel.
Other than that, I find it fairly basic stuff. I've put over almost 1,000 miles on the trailer since with no bearing/hub issues.
Hit me up if you have questions!
Take care,
