In learning new technique and tricks how long of a session do you usually go for? 10 minutes? 1 hour?

How many falls does this mean?

Is there a suggested optimal mix of keeping on trying with cutting losses and thinking about it from the back of the boat?

well i ride where we have like 5 boats and everyone ties up and we take turns
then everyone will pile in someones boat and everyone will ride

some of the guys ride for maybe an hour i ride maybe 30 min (look at the name and u can see why)

but then we take a break and let anyone else that has come up go and ride

so there is like a 2 hour break in between the time i ride and then the next time so if im trying new tricks i try and do it until i get it or wear myself out or fall so bad i have to take a break but thats just me

but i would ride til ya get tired take a break and then ride again

We ride until it starts getting too dark to safely put the boat back on the trailer.

I'd say usually 3 20 minute sets. Sometimes longer if I'm getting really close to something but keep falling and sometimes shorter if I take a digger and am not really feeling it, or the water's bad.

I typically will do however many sets I can with the time I have available and ride 30-45 minutes each time.

We generally ride 15-20 minute sets. Some days its only 2 sets per person, other days we run as many as 4 sets apiece. Our rule is that the guy riding decides when he wants to stop. Go until you get tired or get tired of falling. Laughing

Wakebrad, same here ya 20 minutes sets is all it takes, if you go out for an hour (which is ridiculous) your wearing yourself out and probably not trying new stuff. What we do is get up, throw everything we know and work on new stuff only. We have switch wednesday lol and toeside tuesday so we basically just throw those type of tricks on those days and try to work on those areas. But ya usually 5-6 falls, 15-25 minutes

5 falls in 20 minutes = 1 fall in 4 minutes.

This, for me, is a low number of falls. Maybe I'm just not doing it right.

ya a 4 minute ride sounds short but not when you just do a couple tricks you know then on to something new. i think i could ride for ever if all i was doing was w2w grabs and 180s. i just get up throw a 180, switch 180 toeside 180, do a big grab in-between those tricks and then im on to trying big stuff.

right now im working on this huge hs fs 180 into the flats thats givin me some problems i keep sliding out on my butt when im landing i need to get my chest over my toes but its hard when im going that big. another is ts bs 180s, those just feel weird and trying to land blind on ts3's

the norm around here is a 15 - 20 minutes set. Any longer and people will get pissed. Good water is scarce around here. The morning sets are usually 10 - 15 minutes and the next person is getting ready as soon as the rider drops. Mainly, just be courtious to the other people on the boat.

We let people ride as long as they want, unless they let go. You get scared and let go of the rope, your coming the in boat Twisted Evil

Personally, I've been shortening my runs so I can get more total time (thinking about the trick and trying the trick) before getting tired.

Yeah it does, I've got a friend with one but he can't afford the gas to be going out all the time. There are a few guys at my school who ride but I haven't been able to meet them yet Sad

We generally board for 15-20 minutes, then take an hour break to hang out on the sandbar. If the weather's nice we're generally out for 6 hours or so. If the weather sucks, we'll generally only be out for an hour, but cut the breaks out.

right now the water is freezing so our sets are short. As the summer goes on they get longer because its more comfortable to be in the water

I think the key to a good session is starting with tricks you know you can land, so you build up your confidence and gets you stoked to land harder stuff...
