I am in need of a new rope and have seen the spectra coating on some. I am just wondering if this works better than the non-coated stuff.

Unless "spectra coating" is something new that I haven't hear of, I think you are asking about the spectra lines that are coated.
I like the coated stuff better because is makes it a little more abrasion-resistant, and it slides through your hands a little easier. It's not any less stretchy, so you won't really notice a difference between coated and uncoated lines in that aspect.

timmyDecker, are the coated ropes less likely to get knotted?

They don't knot, but they do tangle Wink

spyd4r, I've been using my Accurate A-line for just over 2 seasons now and have found it much much less prone to tangle, as a matter of fact if you regularly untangle it every month or so it doesn't tangle at all. It will knot however.

I think they are generally easier to deal with for both knots and tangling. I keep mine coiled and stored relatively neatly when I'm not using it and I haven't had any problems with knotting or tangling. The uncoated line that I have as a back-up gets tangled even when it's coiled, but I also never use it and it's not spectra, so that may be a factor. I'm sure if you tried you could get the coated lines to knot and tangle, but with a little care it shouldn't be a problem.

Don't get them caught on your board racks though...I ripped the cover on mine that way. Now it looks like crap.
