I know we got some audio freaks on wb.com so whos got the baddest sound system in their boat? Im curious.  Ill start, I know mine definetely isnt the best but gotta start somewhere...
6 6.5" sony xplods with a 600W sony amp powering them
2 6.5" sony xplod tower speakers with 600W powering them
1 Polk Momo 10" subwoofer with 500W rockford fosgate amp
Sony CD/mp3 head unit

well mine isnt finished yet... i still need to buy a deck and seperates but this is what i plan to instll in my bayliner (in the end it will probably have cost me half of what i paid for the boat  )
3 10" viper subs, powered by a fusion 2000w monoblock amp
4-6 seperates powered by an avionixx 600w 4ch amp
2-4 seperates powered by the deck
deck will be ipod ready to *looking at a panasonic unit p5893u or something like that

I know its definitly not the baddest but I do have some serious power. Its was posted last year at install but here it is again.
All figures are continuous watts.
1-Hifonics 1200w Class D powering a 900w 12" Atlas sub in a Tuned port box withing 8 cubic inches of manuf spec.
1-Hifonics 600w running (4) 6 1/2 Audiobahn Marines in a Liquid trends box on the tower
1-Hifonics 400w handling the (4) 5 1/4" Audiobahn Marines in the boat.
Pioneer MP3 headunit with 2 remotes and 2nd battery Etc.
This system absolutly pounds and with the horn tweeters you can hear it clear as a bell while riding. Best part is I have just shy of $1,000 into it.

When I think amazing systems, I always think back to Doug H. who did some amazing stuff back in 2002ish... I wish I could find a post of exactly what he had in....but I remember thinking he had more $$$ in stereo stuff in his X-Star than many had $$$ in their new boats.

Exactly Bambamski....had at least 3 McIntosh amps in the boat. Everything was crazy cool stuff...he use to switch out speakers all the time, a lot of money and a passion for his boat audio....
Also the lighting.... Doing lighting well before it became common place...

why on earth would anyone use McIntosh amps in a boat? What a waste. You will never get the sound quality out of a boat that those amps are designed for.
I'm interested in that Hifonics sub, I though Kicker had a patent on square subs.

Agreed JRYoung, I mentioned Grant above as well. Though he has an Air Nautique(DD). They just had some "Beat" down where his lake house is and posted a bunch of photos of the boats that competed, but I cannot find the thread for the life of me.....

I would guess because you can....... Why wouldn't you get the quality out of the McIntosh amps? At what point do you stop getting quality out of product? I am no audiophile....so obviously your comments related to the amps not providing the sound quality they were designed for lost me?

Grant just totally re-did his whole system again.
It was pounding before, but now it's un real.
I was at his house at Tulloch a few weeks ago for the Spring Ride, and his boat is the first boat that has given me a head ache.

Grants install diary is amazing. What makes his system even a bit more impressive to me is that it is self installed. He does all the little things right. I think anything that you are doing for yourself, if you have the skills, is going to be better than something you pay to have done.
Bet the house was amazing. The pics have me green with envy.

TP83, if you're upgrading speakers I'd highly recommend doing some Polk DB650's. I switched out all the kicker stuff in my boat for Polk DB components and couldn't be happier. They sound heads and shoulders above the Kicker DSM60's IMO.
Our setup:
1 Digital Audio DAB4600x
1 Digital Audio DAB2500x
1 Polk DB110 Sub
4 Polk DB650's
4 Polk DB690's in a Liquid Trends box.
I'm pretty satisfied with everything right now, I might upgrade my amps to some Zapco over the winter however I also might cut the vinyl out in the bow and install 2 more Polk DB650s.

Well by baller on a budget I mean the equipment I used was not high end stuff, I did the system in a few stages but it is probably only $1500US worth of gear tops, the big boys are spending that on a single sub amp. I did spend a lot of time building the subs, tower box and amp rack just how I wanted them but I learnt how to do everything by reading these forums and being inspired by Grants and others work.
Yes, Sanger V210, I love it! It is the bomb, the more I see the new bigger and bigger wake boats the more I like my little engine that could.
Hi Zcaithaca, the LCD only has a DVD player and an input for a video camera. It has been installed for about 2 years but we have only used it a few times for instant feedback for training and a few DVD's for the kids while camping. Overall its not very practical but excellent for wank factor.

it's not that the quality of the amp degrades, it that those amps are top of the line and made to use in systems that are staged and imaged. Not saying you can't use them in any application you want, but why waste the money? You can will never get good sound quality out of a boat, it's not possible at 22mph. I have a feeling that the type of sound quailty I'm referring to is far beyond anything most people here have ever herd. Seeing that amp in a boat to me is the same as putting 24" rims on a Lamborghini. Why would anyone do that?

I was torn between the W7 and the ID MAX so I got one of each. Then when the Eclipse Titanium came out, I had to have one of those. That thing is nothing short of amazing. Incredibly accurate fast moving cone. It is also very loud. Each sub kinda of compliments each other too and compensate for the other subs occasional dips in the frequency response. If I had it to do over, I would do it exactly the same again.
RE: Different sub amps
Not intentional. Initially, I just used the Orions and two subs. The PPI used to power two sets of tower speakers, but I wanted more than 125 watts. I, therefore, went with the McIntosh 300 X 2 because it is the most stable amp I have used and I needed a two channel that could power four speakers without overhating issues and without loosing sound quality in 2ohm. McInotsh has the same .00015 thd when in 4 ohm or 2 ohm and will send 300 watts to each speakers whether 11.5 volts or 14.4 volts going to it.
I then added a third set of towers and decided to add a third sub (I really just wanted an excuse to buy th Eclipse Titanium when it came out). The PPI was left over for this duty. |
