Hey All,

A friend of mine works at Muskoka Woods Camp in the muskoka region of Ontario. She told me that they are looking for instructors to help out with their Wake X program. They are well known for this program around and have a private lake and slider park to go wtih it. It's a great camp and they usually have tons of fun. Just thought i'd put it out ther eto you guys that they're looking, so if anybody's interested, check out www.muskokawoods.com

Pics for clicks: Here's what they ride on. I believe they have 3 of them new and 4-5 other brand new nautiques for skiing.

If they paid their instructors better I don't think they'd be looking so much.

being honest, my friend just asked me if i knew of people that would be interested. they also sponsor a wakebaord tv show thati record every week called Oneighty Wake TV, and it's very much tied into the camp there. But to be honest, i have no idea what they pay. Check out the site and under the job stuff. I'm just planning on volunteering there for a week this summer.

It is a good camp for sure though, and would be fun to work at. I'm just sayin' if you need to save some dough$$ over the summer, probably not the best.

Isn't that where Maestro has been spending his summers working?

Usually these wakeboard camps dont "pay." Your pay is getting to ride behind a nice boat, free lodging, and food. Any money you get is considered "tips." At the camp my sister worked at, its not usually tips from campers, it was from the boss but its not a set amount and its just a couple bills, not a paycheck. Im guessing that this one is the same way. Youll get paid enough to go out on the weekend, but not to buy a car.

I have a feeling you're right...but it should all be on the website. if you're interested, that's where to start.

Yes, I've worked at the Woods for the past 5 summers. It's a very large sports "resort" - not only limited to wakeboarding. They don't run like most other wakeboard camps, since kids are kept busy at night with "program" rather than having free time to just hang out. The facilit(y/ies) they have are some of the best you'll find, with one Nautique dedicated to the Wake-X program (I really think they need a new name - we're not in the 90s anymore). The slider park is amazing (the sliders aren't what they could be due to budget restrictions - but they're still great for beginners/intermediate riders) and is one of my favorite places to chill/hang out EVER. The wakeboard program has an amazing amount of potential, but as long as it's 100% tied into the bigger "summer camp" program I don't think it will be able to expand to its full potential.

This summer is the first that the "core" group of wakeboard staff won't be back, and I think the program is going to suffer because of it. The camp requires staff to sign contracts which prevent you from drinking/attending "dancing" establishments, and your allowed time off-property is quite limited (Tuesday/Friday nights, Saturday mornings). I had no problem taking a break from drinking, but being stuck on camp property, even when you really have no responsibilities, was a little much to take another year of. Also, the pay really isn't that great (instructors make 110 a week, but certain people have room for negotiation), but as mentioned earlier you don't really expect to make much when your job is sitting in a boat all day and teaching kids how to ride.

The reality is that the camp is a great place to work and meet tons of cool people (most of my best friends now have come from my years there) as long as you're willing to make some sacrifices. Unfortunately, most of these sacrifices are ones that qualified wakeboard instructors don't want to make, and as a result I really see the program suffering. But, if anyone is looking for a good opportunity to ride and meet new people (and aren't worried about not being able to booze/smoke/do drugs/etc) I'd definitely recommend you check it out. Take a browse of http://www.muskokawoods.com/interactive_map/index.html - click on the WakeX link on the left (little movie plays) - you can also see vids from other areas of camp (which you'll see are quite impressive). http://actionsports.muskokawoods.com/ is their "action sports" site if you want to check that out as well. If anyone has questions about the camp I'd be more than happy to answer them.

Dragonlady8, Nope, I wasn't planning on going back and was worried about what I was going to do, then an opportunity at a sweeter camp presented itself. All the wakeboard-related perks of the Woods with a LOT more freedom, better pay and overall just a better scene. Unfortunately it's a rival camp on the same lake, so I don't think the "big guns" at the Woods are too thrilled. They've now lost three staff to this new camp, and I think some of their regular campers are going to start to make the switch as well. Oh well, what can you do? Laughing
