I had my first set in 6 months on the Sacramento River today. I found that the typical 180s, and backrolls were simple (like riding a bike), but I attempted my first 360 today which was a complete disaster. I smacked the back of my head pretty hard, and am afraid of trying again because of what happened. When I was learning backrolls it never hurt that bad when I fell. I tried a toeside backside 360 because it seemed like it would be the easiest approach. I only got about a half of rotation before I fell back on my head. Is this typical when learning? Is heelside easier??

Board2die, haha well there is your problem! TS BS 360s are considered the hardest 360 by 90+ percent of wakeboarders. I learned HS FS, then TS FS, then HS BS (but I lost my TS FS). Havent learned TS BS yet. Thats a goal for this year. Try a HS FS or HS BS. Keys for a HS FS are waiting till you have left the wake to initiate the spin, then pull hard with both hands to your back hip before passing. If you get the handle and waited long enough to spin, you should land it. For HS BS, you have to wait wait wait! More than any spin Ive ever done. Try to wait until the peak of your jump or just before it to initiate the spin. You can get the handle without much effort and once you do the rest of the spin whips right around. As long as you wait long enough, they arent too hard. If you dont youll go crazy off axis and possibly land on your back. (Ive done it Laughing )

Good luck
(and btw: trick tips forum. Wink )

You're not really doing yourself any favors by choosing that 3 first. I just started working on heelside 3's last week. I've tried 5 so far and on my last attempt I finally got all the way around and landed edging away on my board without the most important part (handle). What has helped though was slowing the boat down to 19mph and wearing a helmet. The first few took pretty hard diggers but didn't really hurt. Now I've gotten more used to the spin and pull of the boat and hope to land it next week. Definately waiting to spin has helped stay on axis after the first couple of hard falls.

I'd try heelside backside if you think ts bs is a natural approach... because you're spinning the same direction

Some people seem to spin backside better. My brother can't do frontside 3's but today was getting super close on BS 5's. Try some FS spins, if they don't feel natural, stick to BS. I can tell you that BS spins are way easier to spot the landing on, so once you get the rotation dialed, it's much easier to land.

And another reason wakeboarding is better than surfing, you die less, that means you have another day to wakeboard, which is more fun than surfing anyway.
