I have a 1000watt jl amp and I was wondering if it would be to much power for a 12 w6. Does anyone know it that will work.

When you bought the JL w6 something should have told you how much power they can handle. But i think the can handle about 800 watts rms, so you should be fine. Just to be safe I wouldnt turn the amp up all the way.

Is it a mono block amp or a multi-channel amp? That makes a big difference. I know a guy here in town that was pushing 6-15" subs with 1 JL Audio 500/1 amp and was winning big soundoffs. It slammed extremely hard. I agree with McQuesten1 by saying be careful and don't turn the amp all the way up.

yes like lowcashfireman said monoblock or multichannel does make a big difference, monoblock(which is what I have, 2000watts worth) sends all the power through one channel, multi channel for instance a 2 channel amp splits it up half the power to each channel, unless you want to get into bridging it.

If your not careful and you put a big monoblock amp on a small sub that can't handle it you will blow the sub off of the magnet. I have seen it happen. Just make sure you read everything about the amp and the speaker and its basically common sense.

seeing as he said its a jl amp, i would be pretty confident in assuming that its a 1000/1.
