|
|
Does anyone have any experience with these Wakeboard towers or possibly have on one their boat. I'm looking at purchasing this tower, but I can't seem to find much information on it. How does it compare to other towers out there such as Monster? Does it put much more stress on your boat than other towers? How is it as far as ease of installation? Anyone have experience with their customer service? Any help would be much appreciated.
Here is a link to the tower: http://www.diywake.com/shop/shopdisplayproducts.asp?id=70&cat=+Towers _________________ Martin |

I bought a light bar from him. polished aluminum does not hodl up well in the elements (oxidation). expect to really take care of whatever you buy. IT needs to be anodized IMO. _________________ LED Concepts |

I've pretty much decided on Monster tower, but I was looking around the DIYWake site. For under $1400, I could get a polished tower, two board racks, mirror/mirror arm, and a 3-light bar. That's a damn good price.
Now I'm also considering still going with the Monster tower but getting the mirror and light bar from DIY.
Any opinions? _________________ Hilton Head Wake Sports.com

HHI Dave, Acurtis hit it on the head. Great prices for sure but the stuff is polished not anodised so needs polishing and caring for after almost every trip out... for fresh water they can probably hold up for a few years but if you are on salt - don't even go there unless you plan on coating all the bare aluminium in some way.
Still great prices though and the machining/detail is some of the best - if only anodised they would take the market! _________________ www.AxisBoats.co.uk | www.Malibu-Boats.co.uk |

Brit Rider, Well, I'm definitely in saltwater. I wonder if powdercoating may be the answer.
Then again, I have lots of practice in polishing billet aluminum since I've been riding custom bikes for many years. _________________ Hilton Head Wake Sports.com

HHI Dave, you could powder coat the stuff for sure - i bet it would last a long time if you did this - it's only the mounts and tow hook that would need finishing so it shouldn't be too bad.
But, then again if you enjoy polishing....
Merry Christmas. _________________ www.AxisBoats.co.uk | www.Malibu-Boats.co.uk |

I just got the mirror arm and mirror from DIY. It is a very nice looking piece of billet. Definitely going to take some regular maintenance to keep it looking good though.

Is there anything you could coat the aluminum in to keep it from deteriorating? _________________ RIP DLS.

| wakeboarderdave1, It would need to either be anodized or powdercoated to really prevent corrosion. I've had custom bikes with lots of polished billet aluminum. It can be labor intensive, but if you stay on top of it, you can keep it gleaming like new. I use Flitz and/or Mother's on my billet pieces. |

I have the tower, and I love it. Installed it in a single morning. The only thing ive notices is that the paint chips easily, but I can always touch it up. The price is great, and its a quality piece. Now I hear they have some quick release feet for it, which is perfect for me since we have to sneak under a bridge to get out to the lake.
