I was selling a cell phone on ebay and got an email from someone asking me if I could wrap it up like a present and send it to a friend who was doing a study abroad program. He said that three of them were going to put in and buy their friend a phone as a present. I was a little worried since I was shipping the phone internationally, but I figured I'd give them the benefit of the doubt and as a precaution send it after they paid me. They paid me $500 with a credit card from PayPal and after the money was in my checking account I wrapped the phone up, enclosed a birthday card, and sent it off to their "friend." They were totally nice the whole time and I sent them a picture of their wrapped up present. About 2 days after I sent it a different one of them tried to pay me $500 on paypal, I refused the payment with the reponse they had already paid me and the phone had shipped. Everything is still good, then, soon after that I get the confirmed postcard that the package arrived. About a month goes by and then I get this email from Paypal saying that the charge was unauthorized. Someone is disputing it with their credit card company and if the credit card company doesn't pay paypal says I will have to pay them back...so much for paypal's security...something to be aware of. If you want protection from paypal you have to follow a very specific set of rules, which suck... They may have stolen the credit card or they are just disputing the charge.
So today, paypal let these scammers's address out to me by mistake, so I emailed them the following:
Well, I tracked you $%#ers to Meridian Mississippi and I don't know how many other people you've scammed but you damn well better give up scamming me because if I find you (which I will) you will be very very sorry. I will seriously drop this issue if I don't lose money on it, other wise I guarantee you will be arrested and/or killed.

Always ship to a confirmed address.
You should also always ship with UPS or FedEx 'cause they can be tracked. I made the mistake of shipping an item with USPS - I'll never do that again.
It's also a good idea to immediately transfer money from your PayPal account to your bank account. They can't take out any money if there is none in there. But, you will have negative balance if they do try to. |
