Wetsounds all the way, don't waste your time with anything else, go for the Pro80s or 60s

pickle311, That really doesn't relate to his question. Rolling Eyes

IMO 6x9's sound better. They generally have greater low end sound, but that really doesn't do much for a tower application. They can usually take more power to them than a 6 1/2" though which is good. The fact of the matter is if you are going with "standard" speakers and not more specialized one like pickle311, is talking about, Its going to really depend on the quality of what you choose. Make sure that you are going for tried and trued brands such as Kicker, polk, etc. and you should end up happy.

You have to go with Polk Audio all the way. They are some of the best quality sounding speakers I have ever listened to. And i would go with 6x9's my self.

how does a brand relate to his question he wants to know what the difference is and 6x9s are better because they have more surface making them possibly louder but if you are able to fit more smaller speakers the quantitiy will give you a louder result. liquidtrends gave me a price where they said the 4 6x9 box was the same price as 6 6.5's. they will get loud and quality is great on both it comes down to looking if you want more low's and less speakers to almost do the same job as a 6.5 when there are more.

I disagree with the 6x9 comments. They project a muddy sound that is not conducive to someone at 75-85 feet back.

6.5's tend to project a cleaner, more concise sound.

Can design is almost as important. A standard round can is not going to sound as good as one that has some sort of reflective surface built in ala Fusion or Bullet.

The loudest setup possible will be something from NVS. Completely insane volume here. NVS uses pro-audio grade concert style speakers, and more importantly, HLCD's. If you want to make eardrums bleed for miles and miles, this is for you.

The cleanest setup possible will be something from Fusion, with Bullet (Warlocks) being very close behind. Fusion uses Diamond Audio M3 and D6 speakers. These are very precise, and throw some of the cleanest behind boat sound I have heard (outside of Grant's boat). So, if you want a very clean, and very clear sound at rider's length and a good deal beyond, these are for you.

Another very important aspect to tower speaker setups that is often not given enough weight is AMPLIFIERS. You want a good deal of high quality power going to the tower for any speaker to work well. Remember, this is an outdoor, non-enclosed environment and you will need more good power to overcome that.

That's so true. Some people just like to be pricks.

Additional info from someone that just went through the process of buying speakers for my tower...

To answer your question so that smartasses won't say anything, 6x9's should be louder than 6.5 round speakers, but that doesn't mean you'll get the best sound out of them. PLUS, you need something that is completely weatherproof, and while they may make weatherproof 6x9 speakers, there probably aren't many to choose from.

In my opinion, there are 2 speaker companies that are heads above in the boat speaker wars. NVS and Wetsounds. I went with Wetsounds for a few reasons. One being that they were a little less expensive than NVS. Another is that they look WAY better than the NVS, and another, is that I found a thread from some guys that tested them all and the Wetsounds speakers came out louder than the NVS on a meter.

I love my Wetsounds speakers and they definitely throw the sound way out behind the boat for a wakeboarder. And to be honest, that's why you want tower speakers anyway.

ragtopdave06, those Wetsounds setups look awesome. Looks like they took Duane's ideas and improved on them big time.

I think so too. Not downing the NVS set up at all though. I'm sure both speaker systems, head to head, are so close in sound. I just happened to like the look of the wetsounds on my boat.

Hey guys, this is Tim White-President of Wet Sounds. Thanks for the props. Just want to clarify on the point above. I started Wet Sounds before NVS came to market and was in the prototype stages with the products when I first saw the original posts on wakeworld of his original versions. I went, dam better hurry up. I give NVS props for being able to get to market sooner. It took a long time to build the tools for the speakers and perfect the sound. Thanks!
