Beginner

Well im new to wakeboarder.com and just wanted to say hello, now to get to the point. i have a few questions, and am not very computer friendly so if these questions have already been posted, dont yell too much Smile

...

Questions:
1)I have been kneeboarding the last two summers and kind of got board with it, i have a 2004 Yamaha 700 jet ski, would this be suitable for beginner wakeboarding.
2) i have been looking at differen't boards and have used the thing in helpful links for beginners chart, on picking a board. i am about 6ft 217 pounds or so, could anyone help me with a good brand??
3)After i got comfortable with doing progressive cuts and what not ( i have been trying to research the sport before investing in it) would my jet ski possibly at reduced throttle be able to throw a wake big enough for w2w?

a jet ski ist gonna give you much of a wake for wake boarding but i would reccomend a board in the 142-145 size
with a jetski you are probably better off to learn to wakeskate

hmmm, is wakeskating more enjoyable, and or easier to ride??? im absolutely horrible at regular skateboarding, i can barely stand on the things... opinions?

its all personal prefernce but most people like both
i would give wakeskating a try

i suck at skateboarding but im ok at wakeskating

never tried wakeskating.
how similar is wakeskating to actual skateboarding?
because i skateboard more than wakeboard and am good at it...
so if i can switch flip and backside flip can i switch flip a wakeskate!?!? Twisted Evil

I know a couple guys that tried wakeskating and never went back to wakeboarding. But a jet ski asdevon said will not pack a big wake.

how would you get up on a wakeskate exaclty...

Elysia, There is plenty of ways, I personally don't wakeskate. A friend acid drops of this picnic table he put in the water, just like on a skateboard. I guess for in water start you can get up like a wakesurf, put your feet on it and when the boat starts going dig the board into the water and it becomes like getting up on a wakeboard.

I am horrible at explaining things.

im not bashing but your gonna be a big ass dude behind a jetski, when you cut out lol you might tip jetski over, the drivers gonna be like... WTF Shocked

ChrisB, people suggest wakeskating if you are behind something with a small wake because there is more you can do without the need for big pop off the wake. Personally, I tried wakeskating for the first time last week and decided to focus mainly on that this summer, although I'll probably wakeboard here and there too. But I found it to be more fun and less painful.

Elysia, when you think about it its a lot like getting up on a wakeboard. The only added step is that you have to get the board stuck to your feet. This is easy.
When you are wakeboarding you have your elbows around your knees and your butt at your heels. As the boat goes forward you let the board plane out and when you are ready you stand up. The only difference I found with wakeskating is that when you are in your ready position you hold the board there with your front hand on the tip of the board. Your backfoot is in place on the back. As the boat slowly moves forward, you put your front foot in place and let go with your hand. Now the board is stuck to your feet with the pressure of the water. You should be in the same position as wakeboarding - elbows at your knees, butt at your heels. Now the boat takes off and pulls you out the same as wakeboarding. As the board levels out you will know when you can stand. Since we are new at it, we give 2 start signals. The first one tells the driver to go forward 1-2 mph, enough to pull the slack and get the board stuck. The second is the signal that you are ready for it to pull you out. I'm sure as we get used to it we will only need one signal.
Also, it seems the falls are easier on a skate. When your feet are in the bindings and you catch an edge you are shot straight down to the water. On a skate, you catch an edge and you will fly forward as you fall which is easier than being thrown straight down.

You should def try the wakeskate with the jet ski. For one, the "gear" is cheaper. We got a seadoo wake edition last year to learn wakeboarding, which we did; but 2 months into the season, I got a skate and had so much more fun on that than the wakeboard. This year i will only have my skate in the boardracks. And as others have said, the falls are easier. It's more like a dive than a "splat". Also, I'm 225 and have no problem on a 112 skate.
