I've got a '07 MC X2, which when ballast'd up and cruising at about 22, seems to throw out a clean wake line from 55-75 ft. I say that because I've seen other posts where rope length questions are answered by "Set rope length at the cleanest part of the wake". I'm trying to re-learn w2w's, and based on no clear "best wake shape" rope length, wondered if this logic holds:

1) start out at ~55ft rope, wake is more narrow, and learn to w2w
2) gradually length rope between runs till clearing at 75ft length.

Make sense? Other thoughts?

First time poster, long time lurker.

How about starting out riding 75' and try your best to clear the wake?

Then shorten to 65' and you'll find yourself sailing into the flats. Mr. Green

You should really set the line length to whatever length you can easily hit the downside of the other wake. (or if you are just starting set it so long that it is not even in the picture)

In general, if you are still trying to clear the wake, you will be a little inconsistent.

You will need to decide if you rather landing in the flats (on a nailed progressive edge) or casing the wake (on a poorly executed edge). I personally would prefer to land in the flats, as I find it no easier on the knees, but it is much more predictable. I would set it so that 90% of the time you are on the downside or in the flats. As you get more consistant, this will turn into a smaller and smaller variation.

I can change the rope 2-3 times on a single set. If I am working on my comfort stuff, I use a long rope, as I like the extra speed and time in the air. But when looking at learning a new invert or new spin or switch-toeside (damn you switch-toes) , I like to take the 2nd wake out of the picture... not that I would not make it, but I am uncertain if I will be in a strong enough of a position to take a casing.

Firs set speed and ride as fast as you feel comfortable and ride the rope length where you can clear the wake toe side. As you get better lengthen the line until you get the cleanest biggest wake riding at the speed you are comfortable with.
