I've got an 82 mc stars and stripes with the powerstroke tranny (1.5 : 1) that im now weighing down with 2 full sized 550lbd fat sacs on either side of the engine cover. With this weight the boat is starting to bog down pulling a boarder up. Once it planes, it shoots off like a rocket.
currently it has some 3 blade (probably origonal) prop on it. any recommendations? |

only take advice from those with experience with a 1.5:1 ratio (most v-drive owners) my V-drive is 1:1 so I don't have any real experience. Here's what I think though.....
most boat's stock prop is a 13x13 on a 1:1 tranny. Most of the 1.5:1 V-drives are delivering with a prop little bit bigger prop 13.5 or 14 with a pitch of 16-22.
Shop for a prop with ACME (call them direct) THey'll give you good guidance & if you don't like the prop they'll exchange it for another one.
You should find the current prop spec stamped on the prop somewhere. You may need to remove the nut to see it if the stamp is on the shoulder.
Good luck

You could ask the people at Acme http://www.acmemarine.com or OJ http://www.ojprops.com. They are the experts.
Generally speaking, decreasing the pitch will help your hole shot. My Maristar also has the 1.5:1 transmission and it has the 14x18 prop. I have been told to go to a 14x16 to improve my hole shot. I am having similar slow get up as it sounds like you are, but haven't yet tried a new prop. _________________ Willy

| plus: check your engine spec for max RPMs. you want a prop that just barely lets you hit your max Rs so that someone doesn't over rev the engine. |
