|
|
| I just received my Ronix ONE bindings and can't believe how comfortable these things are. By far the best feeling binding I have ever put my foot into. My question is has anyone heated the liners on their own? I do not have a shop in my area that can do it so DIY is really my only option. I called Ronix and they said some people have used hot water in a bathtub to do it but they recommend heating the liner to 120 degrees fahrenheit. Also, do the liners come out of the binding for the heating process? It seems nearly impossible to slide it out from the boot. |

hot water- yes.
oven- absolutely not.
hair dryer- probably best bet.
the lining is not removable.
From what I've been told, you're looking for 120 degrees for around 5 mins. You might also wanna put a thin sock on when you put the bindings on, because the bindings will be quite warm. _________________ www.TheLiquidPlayground.com

no oven? i used to bake my new hockey skates when i was a kid before they started doing it at the retailer. 120 degrees for 5 minutes doesn't seem too hot or long to do damage...i have been wrong before
On a side note, IMO i think it is great that wakeboard boot progression is taking a page out of hockey skates (baking the liner for a more individual feel) or i could be wrong if they have been doing this with snowboard boots, not to familiar though |

the liner is removable and Intuition (the linings mfg.) reccomends heating them in a household oven if you dont have a local shop to heat them _________________ TEAM PIRATE, AAAARRRGGGHHH YOU READY?

| matt1808, i figured, it is cool to see ideas from other sports being incorporated into wakeboarding progression. |

My info is coming from the Southern US Ronix rep. Do what you want with it. _________________ www.TheLiquidPlayground.com

typeRider, I dont believe that LF has fully incorporated the heat molded tech into their boots yet. Word on the streets is that the Ronix liners are already tearing... _________________ "I just want something more than to come home in my cool looking SUV, sit in my king sized leather recliner and watch reality television on my widescreen plasma TV...How easy it is to care for someone when you dont have anything else..." |

| I molded my 06 watsons. It doesnt do quite as well as the Ronix boots (obviously), but it did definately work. It might work even better on the 07 bindings. |

| I got a call back from a Ronix rep and they instructed me not to remove the liners. They also said do not use a hair dryer, heat gun, or oven to try and heat the liners. They said I could try hot water but it is not recommended. Luckily, I did find a snowboard shop in my area with the machine so I am going to take them over and have them molded tomorrow. |

aarond0083, the advice you got from ronix is similar to a gm dealership telling you not to buy a ford....IMO.
also what do you think those heated mold machines do...? some sort of magic...you can use an oven for christs sake |

jhilly8982, haha, its a little different basically what theyre saying is that the average person is probably gonna Bubb Rubb up their boots so just take it to a shop so they don't have to deal with warranties.
I don't get why people think this is so revolutionary. |

jhilly8982, I didn't really get the reasoning behind your first statement with GM and Ford... but what you said about the machine makes since so rather than drive 30 minutes and pay $10 to have the shop do it for me I tried the oven method.
Preheated the oven to 250 degrees using bake mode and put the boots in for 7 minutes. It's actually 120 degrees celsius that Ronix recommends and which equals 248 degrees fahrenheit. The boots were not that hot when I pulled them out except for the metal piece used to tighten the strings. I was able to slide my feet right into them and stood up for around 10 minutes with all my weight pushing down.
Results...it worked perfectly. The lining molded to every part of my foot and they are even more comfortable than they were out of the box. If your not strapped for cash, I would recommend these to anyone and I challenge you to find a more comfortable boot.
Now if the weather would only cooperate so I can go ride this weekend!

watsons and shanes tend to mold over time without heat, just 10 sets or so and all the pressure points go away. I was nervous about baking my bindings, so I just wore them out of the box, and they mold very nicely on their own _________________

yeah i actually did the same thing with mine and rode them straight out of box once so far.... so the lf guy just emailed me back and said that with lf's bindings you just wear them a few times and not to bake them. works for me. _________________ i drive a convertible. i have a boat. i wakeboard. word 2 yo mutha. dueces. |

RC
They are four little L shaped foam pieces that slide into the sides of the boot right behind the ball on your ankle to provide addition support if you need it. The boots are nice and tight on my foot without them so I am going to ride a few times before I try putting them in. I don't think I will need them. I am guessing only people with narrow feet will need the extra support.
Here is a picture of them.

aarond0083,what i meant... of course ronix is going to tell you to use their heating method...similar to if you are at a gm dealer they are going to tell you that you 'need' to use their truck to tow 'so and so' and a ford won't work.
i agree, not a good a very good comparison though |

It's in Ronix' interest to not have some dumb@$$ bake his bindings like a thanksgiving turkey and then use the warranty as an excuse for a new pair... _________________

250 degrees is 250 degrees no matter how you put it. How is an oven different than their machine? I put mine in the oven and it worked perfect. No damage whatsoever. I wouldn't expect it to be covered by warranty if it had though. |

does the proper machine not just heat the inside. i thought it was like a foot shaped thing they put inside which heated up. which then means the outer part of the boot isnt heated to 250 im only guessin tho?????? |

It's like a steamer, I think. you put the liner over a tube that pumps steam into it for a few minutes, then put your foot in _________________

Rex,
There is a velcro L shape same as the j-bars on the inside of the boot, not the liner. It is way down in there and tough to get to but the j-bar just velcros to the boot near the ball of your ankle. I put them in mine and it gives the boot a locked in feel. |

I think the main problem with a conventional oven is that the liners could be exposed to a direct heat source, you dont want to broil your boots!
Convection ovens circulate hot aire and I've used them to mold intuition liners for ski boots. If you have access to a convection oven that would be much better than a conventional oven. _________________ www.midwestmastercraft.com
