i'm looking for my first wakeboard, and i'm on a tight budget. Under $200 would be nice. I found some cheap boards on ebay, but i'm wondering if they're good quality. Are the brands Assault, Blindside, Liquid Force, or Obrien any good? I can water-ski pretty well, so does that mean i can get a more advanced board? thanks a lot.

My first board was a Hydroslide from Boater's World. It was $150.00 and included the velcro bindings. As with most things, you get what you pay for. If I were on a tight budget, I would definitely shop for a good price on a closeout or used board from a reputable manufacturer rather than a new el-cheapo board.

Ebay is certainly a good place to find bargains. Also, most of the online shops like www.buywake.com www.the-house.com www.boardstop.com have closeouts for sale. Finding a decent board for $200.00 is not unreasonable. Finding a quality board AND bindings for $200.00 might be stretching it, but anything's possible. What size are you looking for?

Good luck and happy hunting! Cool

i would actually try to find a used board on here or wakeworld.com wakeboards lose value pretty rapidly year by year, if i were you on a low budget id buy a couple years older and then get the feel it for it and what not and go from there..

but by all means ebay is good too
def go with a liquid force or hyperlite

I would go for EBAY also. I just bought a brand new ps3 137 from 2006 for 199 $.
If you keep an eye out on ebay you will most likely find some very good deals.

HHI Dave, You didn't just recommend a newbie rider the Parks did you...??? Thats like the worst board for someone to try and learn on. I wouldn't go with that one billabob1234. Start out with something more manageable like an LF Team, Omega or Hyperlite Premier and go with a board length of at least 138 or more cuz it's easier to learn on a longer board.

Honestly, it wasn't so much a recommendation as it was an illustration that reputable boards are available at reasonable prices. Personally, I've never ridden a Parks so I really couldn't comment on its suitability. There are plenty of others out there. Cool

WattsBar=Perfect, that is really subjective...pretty much every brand makes a good board for riders of every level - it is really personal preference.

Also you can get some good deals on blim's, its a brand new board but they messed up the graphics a little. For learning IMO bindings are extremely important they are the only link to your board and if they are too loose as those velcro bindings usually are then your in for trouble.

I would suggest a pacakge LF Omega's w/ switch bindings you might be able to find that under $200 just a quick check I found it for around $240 new. If you can spend $50-60 more my buddy got a CWB Pure w/ hinge torq bindings. Which is a wicked setup he got for $260 shipped.
