I know that all the magazines and videos say towers are a must when wakeboarding. But my dad does not want to pay 1000 dollars for one. Right now I have to wakeboard with one of those ski hooks right above the I/O. Once I start doing inverts, will the low angle of the rope affect me badly. Please Write a convicing message so I can change my dad's mind. _________________ I hate the newbie icon, I have wakeboarded for 5 years. That aint no newbie |

| You could also get a skypole. They dont stand as tall as all towers but they're like a couple hundred bucks if that. Yes, once you start doing inverts you're going to want a Skypole/Tower. But if you aren't doing inverts yet just work on your HS,TS switch etc. 180's 3's your basics really! |

dont get a tower yet, i have a 17 foot outboard and i can do 360's and get lots of air no problem, there have been people doing inverts on th boat
a tower can give you a little more air, but mostly more hangtime
i noticed in your profile your favorite trick is a tantrum

bamaboarder09, One common misconception about wake towers is that they help you go higher. The thing with towers is that they dont necessarily get you more height, but like devon said, they give you more hangtime. Since the forward pull is coming from a higher tow point, while you're jumping the wake and getting pulled forward at the same time, the higher tow point will continue to pull you along at its level. In other words, having a lower tow point (like the ski eye on the transom) will pull you down towards it and make you hit the water sooner than a tower would. It's not true that you cant do inverts without a tower, but not having one limits your air time so with certain tricks you're going to be more rushed to complete the rotations. In short, towers are great, and allow you to have more time in the air, but they aren't 100% necessary to be able to ride well. I would suggest using what you have to hone your skills and technique this summer, and save up money to help pay for a tower in the future. Also get to know people in your area that have wake boats so you're not at a total loss and can appreciate it and have something to work for. Patience is key though, appreciate what you have now and work with it. You'd be surprised what you can accomplish. Im going to another motivational speaking seminar now...Good luck! _________________ "I just want something more than to come home in my cool looking SUV, sit in my king sized leather recliner and watch reality television on my widescreen plasma TV...How easy it is to care for someone when you dont have anything else..." |

Thanks for clearing it up, I always thought you got more air with a tower.
The only problem with the skylon is the cable that sits right up the middle of the bow. "It just takes up to much room" quote from dad. _________________ I hate the newbie icon, I have wakeboarded for 5 years. That aint no newbie |
