We have a centurion that the gas gauge bounces all over the place... It will tell us it is empty, we go to fill it, and it takes 10 gallons. The next time out, we have half a tank... and we die. We are supposed to have a 30 gallon tank, but it has never taken more than 20 at fill up. (the time it died we were filling from gas cans and were down to our last 18 gallons)
Is is possible that we do not a 30 gallon tank?
I think it is the sender, but here are the questions, where? Easy fix? Call the dealer? How much should this fix send us back?
Any other suggestions would be great.
I have no problem looking like an idiot here, especially if it saves me from wasting money at the dealer.

My 2004 Tige's fuel gauge is totally unreliable (common problem that year ); anyway, I got sick of being nervous about it and installed a fuel flow meter. It cost about $130 and an afternoon to install it. It's been flawless and gives fuel flow data if you're interested in fuel economy at different RPM. I get a nice, warm feeling knowing how much fuel is in the tank, down to a couple of tenths of a gallon.
If you want to go the fuel flow meter route, there's an exhaustive discussion of fuel flow meters, dowels, and plugging fuel flow meters into digital Faria gauges at tigeowners.com
