Describe you scariest moment on a wakeboard/skate.

My friend and I were reminiscing about the good ol' days, and I decided that it would be fun to share.

Here's mine. I was wakeskating before school one morning and was trying hs fs 3's off the doubleup. Near the end of my set, I got bucked a little bit on the takeoff. Now, usually when this happens the board goes flying off in some random direction or stays well below you. On this occasion, however, the board floated up right in between my legs. So I was about ten feet up, frantically trying to bat the board away with my hands to no avail. Shortly before I hit the water I pinched the skate between my legs, leaned back, and hoped for the best. I got minor bruises on the inside of my thigh but that was it. I had been expecting the worst, so I lucked out big time.

my most frightening moment came last season I did a backroll, I landed with a lot of weight on my front foot (ackwardly) and I ripped my watsons in half so I heard a really weird tearing sound. I felt a substantial amount of pain in my knee so my first thought was stuff I TORE SOMETHING!!!!! And i did, I tore my "dental floss bindings" I did sprain my knee, but not bad.

Smacked the side of my head on a faceplanted 3 attempt. Ruptured my eardrum. Lost sense of direction and balance (no equilibrium). Thought I was going to drown. Just bled a bit.

For me it was probably the first time when I hyperextended my knee and thought I tore my ACL, or when I had a bizzare crash of the d up and didnt know what was wrong with my arm. (crazy pins and needles, bruised, red, felt like it was on fire)

2 years ago i was demoing a Byerly setup with the Canadian Hyperlite Team, I went huge off a fully loaded malibu wakesetter wake at the end of my run, so i was getting tired, somehow caught my edge, did a massive faceplant, felt my knee twist and heard a snap. I freaked out, but it was the board, I ripped the insert right out of the board and snapped the left binding plate in half. But my knee was pretty messed and that ended my season. As for the board, it was a write off, but i didnt have to pay for it luckily

I remembered another funny story. It wasn't scary because it happened so quickly, but last summer I had the worst faceplant of my life on a switch ts5. I hit so hard that my teeth felt loose and my lips were swollen.

I was cutting in last year and didn't see some boat waves coming, sort of hit the wake like a bad double up and my knee locked as I hit it. Heard some weird noise and my knee hurt a lot for a second... thought I had screwed it. Sat in the water for a couple minutes, got back up and it seemed to be fine though.

I cant remember my most frightening moment on a wakeboard because I got knocked the F out...but my friends say it was pretty scary considering that I was bleeding out of my nose and wouldnt wake up so...

About 6 years ago when I was 13, I was working on my half cabs. Well I landed one straight legged and felt some pain in my knee so I let go and sat down in the water. When I look at my knee, my knee cap is stuck on the outside left side of my left knee. As soon as I see that I start freaking out and the pain increased like 10 times. The boat came back around and my knee cap was still all messed up and nobody knew what to do. So I just sat in the water for about 5 more minutes freaking out the whole time. Finally, my knee decided to go back in to place after almost 10 minutes. It really sucked.

Another was when my friend Danny caught his edge on a raley. He wasn't messing around either, I am talking like full Darin Shaprio cut. Well he didn't get much pop and couldn't get the board back under him. We came back to get him and go him on the back of the boat and he was spitting up blood. Not from a cut in his mouth or anything just straight spitting up blood. I told him he should probably go to the hospital and get checked out and hes like "Naw dude, I'm cool. I don't have health insurance anyways." I made sure to call him the next day and make sure he wasn't dead.

it's stories like these that convinced my friend to never wakeboard again.

Well, the stories and those pics that show up every so often of the guy's leg bone sticking out of his skin in the murray (?) bindings.

He got super freaked out after seeing those pics, then next trip out i dislocated my knee on a tantrum, a trick i had just learned like a week before. He witnessed the whole thing and vowed never to ride again. Razz

The first time I tried a raley, really wish I the sense not to do that with the rope tied to the back of the boat. Since that happened my EMT friends still wont try to go big. Oh well there loss.[/quote]

Erik Jernberg, how did you manage to get the bindings off without ripping up your leg more?? Cut them off?

I was edging on my toeside edge, my binding screw had worked loose on my front foot on the inside. twisted my knee an F'd up way and heard a pop. It hert alot but the pop was my ankle craking, like when you crack your knuckles. Never really did find out what was wrong.

Dislocated my shoulder after crashing on a d-up. Couldn't get it back into the socket, so I couldn't swim or anything. That was pretty scary.

I was riding behind my buddies x-1. Just got up, taking it easy just going to throw a big air, so i carve... i pop... handle breaks, Now kids if you've ever been floating parallel with the water and floating on your back and you have time to think about how bad this is going to hurt, you're high in the air... knocked the wind right out of me. i just floated for awhile after that.. it was one of those "OHHHHH" from the boat.

and that one drunken time i blew my ear drum.

thats about it.

It wasn't my experience, but my dad was water skiing last season and we started going over some other wakes and he fell hard. I heard his scream and turned around and got back and he was in pain. He broke a vertebrae and he could barely get out of the water. Then we had to go to the launch ramp, he had to drive all the way home, and finally when he got to the hospital he blacked out from the pain in the waiting room.

I landed a t-up perfectly flat on my board, which sent shockwaves through every joint in my back leg. None of my joints would bend, I thought I'd crushed them all. My knee and ankle swelled up and my hip was stif for a few days, x-rays showed nothing out of the ordinary, so I guess I just banged em all up pretty good. everythings fine now

I was screwing around and almost ended up as a hood ornament on a new Malibu.

Riding skiers cove on Lewisville and had just finished a clean run coming out. The driver pulled a pretty tight turn and I was on the outside, so I just dug in my edge and did the slingshot pull. Unfortunately, we weren't paying attention and this new owner who had been too close to everyone else all day and kept stopping in weird spots as well, had decided to do so again. As I came around I could tell it was going to be close, but had no idea how to do anything but keep holding on and hope I missed. If I had let go, I don't know that I would have made it around him. As it was, I passed close enough to touch his boat as I went by (I didn't). Pucker factor was pretty high.

wake_board_skate_surf, awesome, I said something quote-worthy. However, if you're going to use that, do me a favor and make me look smarter than I am by pretending I spelled "reminded" correctly when I wrote that. Laughing

Arm through handle on a wrapped BS 180 about 4 years ago. Some pretty major bruising but thankfully a full recovery. Have never tried anything wrapped since.

was learning backrolls off a barefoot boat. Completely under rotated one, landed on my back and my knee hit my face. i didn't think it was too bad cause there wasn't a lot of pain until i came back up to the surface and was just floating in blood. Plus my dad yelling and panicking in the boat didn't help. I had bitten a hole right through my lower lip thanks to my knee hitting it. Wasn't that bad just looked gross and tasted the same.

Also I had 2 weeks of state examinations the very next day.

i haven't had any scary moments but plenty of weird ones. i tend to hit things. around 9 one night i cut out hard and never saw the little fishing boat till i was in it. i felt bad for the poor fisherman who fell asleep and woke up to me in his boat but he found it funny. it made for a cool scar on my knee and now the fisherman stay as far away as possible.
