25-30 is pretty fast. But people's speedos are inconsistent so you might be lower. I'd say majority ride between 20-23 with beginners riding slower and the pros ride faster. But it depends on where the wake is the best and what you're most comfortable with. _________________ You have just entered the twilight zone. |

yeah more than likely your speedometer's off. 30mph on a wakeboard is pretty sketchy. If you feel like it's hard to keep your board above water, i'd guess you're at probably 18mph ish. I guess it also depends on your weight some, i dunno. FYI, ride at whatever feels comfy. Screw what other people tell you do. _________________ "What? When did the ballast break? 30 is scary fast on a wakeboard. your board should feel nice and floaty anywhere between 22 and 25. I'd get my spedometer checked if I were you. Maybe use a GPS next time you go out _________________

I agree here. 30mph is just not needed for wakeboarding from my experience anyway. I don't recall seeing anyone ride over 25mph...I'd say for the most part 20-25 is ideal just depending on your preference and making sure the wakes are clean. Depending on how much weight is in the boat and how that effects our wakes we will adjust speed as needed to clean up the wakes.
If you feel like you're dragging at about 22-23mph then you might need to be riding a larger board with more surface area for you. What are you riding now, what size board, and how much do you weigh etc? If you can't go w2w that's more due to technique or rope length. I advise not going over 25mph, I think your problem lies elsewhere not in boat speed. Or as mentioned....get someone to verify the speedos on your boat or use a GPS to get accurate speed and calibrate the speedos. |

| Not to mention...most wakes will start flattening out at those speeds. probably have more wake to help your jumps at 20-25mph. |

21 MPH here. My first question, as phantom268 mentioned, was whether you're riding a board that is big enough.
What do you weigh and what size board are you riding? _________________

Sound about right size-wise, unless it is a really skinny model or something. What kind of board is it? _________________

That's about what I weigh and I think you'd do much better with a 140-143 or so sized board. that's what I ride. 137 is pushing it for a 180 pound rider, I think you could be more stable and comfortable and not dragging as much riding on a larger board. It would at least be worth trying to see how you feel on one. |

phantom268, what are you riding? Not all boards are created equal, and you can ride a shorter board if it is wider. _________________

Edwards, I'd recommend bringing someone out who has a lot of experience wakeboarding. Just by the feel of the water I can tell you within 1 mph how fast we're actually going. I'm sure there are others like that and can help you get started. Riding with better people makes you better. Check the find a pull section and see if you can find some people to ride with you. _________________ You have just entered the twilight zone. |

Absolutely...it can work for some especially advanced riders that simply prefer a shorter board for whatever reason. But for MOST boards and beginner-intermediate riders I think the 137 would be a tad short. But some boards are made to be ridden shorter, what exact model board are you on Edwards? Just wanna make sure he has enough surface area. Whatever the case if you have to go like 30mph to not "drag" something is very wrong haha.
I currently ride a LF Omega 143 or HL State 145. Probably will be mostly on the State this season actually. The Omega is "my" board but my wife will probably start using it with her new bindings. I'll just ride my brothers State and move my bindings to it cause we hate his. |
