|
|
Hey guys, i would like some expert advice and i think you can help me.
background: i'm 20 years old. i live in arizona, so i've grown up around skiing and wakeboarding. I've been wakeboarding every summer for the past 3 years. i've never owned my own board, i just used the ones on the boat.
Weight: 155
Foot size: 13
height: 6'1
Perfered style: i dont really know, i like to jump (cant clear the wake yet)
and wake slide a little. i can do some grabs too.
So as you can see im tall skinny and have big feet haha.
sometimes i take the wakeboard off and my feet and bruised from being so tight.
but anyway I need a wakeboard for the summer and im looking to spend something in the low $200's. I went wiredsport.com and built a package with the hyperlite logic 2007 141cm and the Hydroslide Deluxe Chaser bindings for $240 after shipping. so if you can reccommend me a size board and bindings, thad be rad.
thank you! |

I've never ordered anything from wiredsport, but I would try to find out if they only offer bindings that are compatible with their boards in the package you are building. I know that some brands have issues with hardware, and trying to fit one brand's binding to the other brand's board. If they just turn you loose to pick out whatever, you might end up with a headache trying to fit boards and bindings. I'm not the authority on mixing brands, though, so maybe it will be easier than it seems.
I know you said low $200's, but is that absolute? You could put some HL bindings on that board for $259, according to their site. I think you'd be much happier with the HL bindings. I personally avoid anything made by Hydroslide. If you are going to be jumping, learning W2W, and falling a lot (all likely), bindings are going to be tested more than if you were just pulling some surface 1's and 3's and carving.
Have you looked at any other sites? Some are offering closeouts on 2006 combos that are pretty good deals, but they might be a bit out of your price range if your low $200's number is strict.
Another alternative would be to buy that package and make those bindings last as long as they can (assuming you find out how they match up/fit the HL board) and then ask for some better bindings for xmas or save up and buy them at the end of the season or something. _________________

thanks a lot pet757 for your reply. which hyperlite bindings were you talking about? i don't really want to buy the slates, they are pretty expensive. were you talking about the h.o mantra black rear lace? im sticking in the 200 range because i don't get to wakeboard that much. like maybe 4 times a summer now that i live in the forest.
So you think i should stick with the logic 141 nontheless?

Ya it was the slates. 141 might be a little big considering your weight. Might want to think about the next size down. I'm 5' 9" 190 lbs and I ride a 143. You can't really "oversize" your board, but a bigger board will be faster since it will ride on top of the water more. You might find it to be a little bulkier for tricks as you advance if it is too big, too.
As for whether that particular board would be good, I don't know a ton about the Logic. I do know that HL is a reputable board company, though. If it weren't such a big board for your size, I'd push you toward the Motive 144. I do know the Motive is a good board (plus it is $10 cheaper on that site!). I think 144 is probably a little in the oversized category for you though. If you are only going to board 4 times a year, you're probably OK with that setup you're looking at. If you're on a tight budget, no need to get carried away. Later on, if you get lucky enough to find a way to increase the budget or ride more, you can upgrade if you'd like. _________________

| If there is no lake where do you ride? If there is a body of water you ride on then there should be boat dealers near there, and if there are boat dealers then most likely there are going to be water sport dealers, like wakeboarding. |

If price isn't really an issue I'd buy a CWB, HL, or LF combo. You'll get a decent board and decent bindings to get you started out. Go to wakeside.com and go to their wakeboard section. You can look at each board they carry by brand and use their little board selector tool to find one that suits you. If you liked the way the 144 felt better than the 138, I'd find something in a 140-144.
If you're only riding 4 times a year, a better board may motivate you to find a way to get out there more. That should be a factor in deciding what you buy though. I hate buying something and then never using it and watching it just sit in my garage. Got that problem with a mountain bike and car bike rack I still haven't installed. _________________

Good call, Phantom. I've heard the SOL is a GREAT beginner board, but it won't hold you back once you start to advance a little. I just wonder if he's jumping and stuff already if he wouldn't advance past that board too quickly. _________________

Well how about the logic 2007 and the H.O mantra rear lace for $250. isnt H.O same as hyperlite? i couldn't really find anything on wakeside. The SOL was out of stock on my size bindings "l/xl"
i'm going to try riding switch and spins this summer so i dont need something thats going to make me do backflips for $400 you know?
edit: wiredsport said all their bindings are compatible with each board.

I don't know the answer to your first question.
As to whether the board is going to automatically make you better, it will most certainly not. It is ALWAYS all about technique. BUT, a nice set of bindings make it a lot more enjoyable to be on the board, as opposed to the bruising you mentioned. If you are more comfortable, you will ride more often/for longer periods, and THAT will improve you.
I'm just one of those people who think that, if you have the means, you should take the fullest advantage of the technology that is out there to improve things. By no means am I trying to push you toward some type of pro model board. Just trying to direct you to a good setup-which is what you asked for. IMHO, you could do better than the setup you were asking about if you are not on a tight budget.
If you really like/want what you picked out, then go for it. Nobody is going to trash you for buying that setup. I just didn't want you to be unhappy with it. _________________

| Roam is a finless board, not usually something you ride all the time more of a fun kind of play around board. |

Might I add that the LF search is a great board to progress on. I have been ridding one for four years, but probably isnt as good as that 05, since mine is an 01. _________________ 04 LF Trip 133
