I'm looking at getting either a 2006 Supra 21V or a 2006 Malibu VLX. I want to know opinions on the wakes only. The VLX I'm looking at has the manual wedge and 4 tank MLS. Please give your opinions on the wakes only if you have spent a good deal of time behind BOTH boats. I have already narrowed my decision to these two boats so I am not interested in any other boats.
Also I know test driving the boats is the best way to decide, but that is not an option.
Thanks |

I had the pleasure of riding behind both of these boats last season. The Supra I rode behind was actually the Gravity Games Edition, but I would assume that is close enough for comparison purposes.
I gotta say that's a tough choice. I found them both to offer some awesome wakes, and both are just solid boats. You really can't go wrong with either one. If I had to pick one I might give a very slight nod to the Malibu overall. I would actually probably simply choose whichever costs less to save some money, cause I'd be quite happy with either of those rides.
If you want specifics on wakes they both offer very large wakes, great shape, clean, and plenty of kick for some nice air. If I recall the Malibu has a slightly more steep ramp to it, course that could be due to many factors like ballast, wedge, etc. If you have specific questions about the wakes I'd be glad to offer any more info if I'm able. Hope that helps, good luck with your purchase you won't be let down with either boat. |

| I've ridden behind both (quite a bit more behind the VLX) and like was said earlier, both are excellent. I actually found the opposite of phanton however. The Supra wake was a little bit steeper and the Malibu wake a little rampier. Little longer landing ramps on the Malibu I thought. I kind of like a little steeper wake though and the Supra landing zones are still plenty big. |

I second Epic's opinion. In general the Supra 21V has a slightly steeper wake and the VLX has a longer more rampy wake. I have ridden quite a bit behind both of these boats.
Neither wake has any weaknesses, just comes down to personal preference.
I like the Supra's steeper wake. |

also the trim control on the supra will let you adjust the shape of the wake signifigantly with the touch of the button, where with the manual wedge, impossible while underway!
I am a 21v owner and very happy, the vlx wake is very nice as well! I have taken several sets behind the vlx and could not complain... he had the wedge but did not use it! _________________ www.midwestwakeboarder.com

The wedge makes a pretty big difference on the VLX. It doesn't really change the shape but it's LARGE with the wedge down. I highly recommend it. Like you said though, the fact that you can change the wake on the Supra is awesome. It's nice to be able to go really rampy for some riders and straight up for others. Malibu has a great shape but it really only goes bigger or smaller with the same shape. |

What does it matter what a bunch of people online think about the wake? Pick the one that suits you and your riding style best. If you really can't decide on that then go with the boat that is the best value for you.
I used to have a SAN and now we have a VLX, took me 4 or 5 sets to get accustomed to the wake, but now I like it. I still prefer the SAN wake, but the VLX is very good as well. IMO you can't go wrong with either boat.
Epic, I must disagree in regards to the VLX however, if you load the bow and leave the wedge up, it produces a very rampy wake, if you drop the wedge down a bit it adds a nice amount of lip, and if you move weight towards the rear it becomes much more vert(y). This is true of about any inboard to some extent. _________________ wakeboards

| Dragon, I already know that I can get the best deal on the supra. I like the styling of the malibu slightly better and like the colors a little better on the 2 malibus that I'm looking at. I am leaning toward the supra, but test driving is not an option so I was just looking for people to give opinions on the wakel. I'm sure that both boats are great and I'll be happy with either. |

EVERYTHING is personal preference. Though I do always love a good boat discussion.
In the end it comes down to this....listen VERY carefully. Right now you know deep down in your heart which boat you prefer. So, don't buy the boat that will always leave you thinking...."Hummmm, did I make the right choice." Right choices never leave you second guessing. |

wakebdr2002, you're about to drop $50-$60k on a wakeboarding boat and test driving isn't an option? Are you nuts? What boats have you ridden behind? What's your riding style like? (Agressive, mellow etc.) _________________ wakeboards

My first boat was a moomba, I currently own a 01 X-star. I am obviously going to test the boat before I drop the cash and finalize the deal, but if I decide to go with the Supra I will have to drive 9 hours. I just want to make a decision and be fairly certain I am going to like the wake before driving 9 hours. My riding style is fairly agressive (land 5 inverts consistenly) and I want a big wake without sacs visible. One VLX i am interested in is a 10 hour drive away, but one just recently became available that is an hour away so testing that one will be easier.
I love the X-star/205/X2/X1 wake (when sacced out) and I like MC boats but I don't like customer service from the local MC dealer. |

| They're so comprable that I would go with whichever one you can get a deal on. I don't think there's a high end wakeboard boat you could buy you'd be dissapointed in. Definately not the Malibu or Supra. When I bought my first boat summer of 05, all the boats were so nice and comprable, my buying decision came down to the fact that there are so many malibu's and mastercraft's around here i wanted something different so bought the Supra. Couldn't be happier. |

Yeah this is a great comparison. I love both boats too. It really comes down to what you like. The 21V wake is much steeper. If you like steep, then you have your answer. If you like rampy then the VLX would be your answer. The nice thing about the Supra is the wake is pretty adjustable without filling extra ballast. You got the wakeplate and you have the ability to change out to huge bags and have them all tucked away and at the flip of a switch.
Really a decision you have to make. Make sure you have a good dealer. You can't go wrong with either. I had 2 21V's and loved them and re-sale was great on them. I have also looked at the Malibu each time and for the cost and etc etc etc... I chose the Supra. Good luck and lets see pics |

I decided to go with the 21V. I really like the seating layout and the ability to get a ton of ballast all hidden by just chaning to larger sacs. I will be picking up next weekend. I got a good deal on an 06 with 40 hrs on it. I also have to ride down a river that can be pretty rough on the weekends to get to out riding spot, so I'm hoping the wakeplate will help tame the rough water.
Thanks for the feedback. |
