hey ive tried the backroll twice now, each time getting better and better the water is just so damn cold, but when i throw it, instead of the board cartwheeling over me, it goes out as i roll, i kinda look like an upside down railey, but my arms arent exstended im still holding on both hands around my hips/chest level, im holding onto the handle throughout the trick and making the roll all the way arond im just landing on my toes/knees/chest

How do i stop the board from getting so far out behind me.

A raley and a backroll 'feel' different to me...

On a raley you hold the pressure on the board up the wake and out into the jump.

On a backroll you hold the pressure on the board up the wake, but release most the tension (squirt is a good verb) out to the side.

Build that progressive edge pressure, but as you come up to the top of the wake allow you legs to sweep out from under you.

OuachitaWaker, you're probably doing what's called a Mexican backroll. What you're probably doing is ducking your head over your toes when you come off the wake which causes an almost front-flip like rotation. I do this when I get lazy with my backrolls. What you want to do is drop your back shoulder toward the tail of the board and keep your head and your shoulders back. Keep both hands on the rope but hold the handle at your lead hip so you don't go to revert.

OuachitaWaker, when you hit the wake try and touch your ear to your shoulder, that will start the rotation, and depending on the wake, you may also have to swing your body

I think your problem is pointing the tip of your board too far behind you when you hit the wake. That might have something to do with you edging too hard into the wake. For my opinion, the best backroll should have good height and rotating real slow. To do that you don't want to swing you hip too much instead you want to think you just want to do 1/2 of the rotation and when you are in the air begining to spot water, you want to pull the rope and to complete the other 1/2 of the rotation. If you can do that you can land this trick everytime without any problem.
