Will definately help with balance, but the most important thing with riding (skating or snowboarding) in the the winter time is that it keeps both your muscle memory, but also, your overall strength in the smaller muscles involved in balance that you normally do not use just walking around.
Skating helps to a degree, but for wakeboarding snowboarding is a better option to help your progression in the offseason.
Hope you have fun though! _________________ Neuston Boards

I've heard snowboarding's kind of like wakeboarding on snow, is that true? _________________ It won't be easy, but when I get there it will be one of the most satisfying journeys of my life. |

| snowboarding i thought was different then wakeboarding, since you lean more on the front foot to middle of the board. As to wakeboarding which is rear foot to middle of the board. |

| I snowboarded for a season. I didnt really like it, at the end of the season (i didnt go up that much) i could go down the mountain without falling, but i didnt do any jumps or tricks. It does help with balance, but i hate it cause its so damn cold, id much rather be in the warm water. |

Skateboarding won't really help a lot for wakeboarding. The only thing I find similar is landing awkwardly and controlling yourself in the air. Snowboarding would definitely help a lot more because you have bindings. Edging seems similar when you're in powder. _________________

You definitely need to get out snowboarding more or find the right place to ride. It's supposed to be cold but if you wear the right clothing you're more likely to sweat. I almost never get cold snowboarding but there were some cool mornings this summer (e.g. 8 degrees Celcius) which were colder than some snowboarding days in late March last year. |

Winter does suck. I live in Canada as well, and the lake probably won't thaw out till April. I wish we had a longer riding season. _________________ Ride hard or go home.

| Winter rocks here in Canada (when it's REAL winter). It's the in between seasons that can drag. Do each sport for it's own sake. If the skills cross over to another sport that's a bonus. |
