|
|
| My little bro gave up wakeboarding, so I'm thinking we'll take his 119 peicer Hydroslide, take off the bindings, and grip tape it. Will this work? I've never wakeskated before, and we were thinking about doing it just for fun, nothing real serious. What makes a wakeboard so much different from a wakeskate? Thanks. |

It's no where close to the same shape or design, so it'll feel like a wakeboard with less control. Not fun.
Go for a low end wakeskate <$100 if you want to try it out. It's a ridiculous amount of fun, and you won't regret droppin ninety bucks for a cheap board. _________________ ...island style... |

Actually, my first "wakeskating" experience was on a buddy's old LF wakeboard. He took the bindings off and epoxied some rubber grip padding on the top.
Like Nick said, its not really like riding a wakeskate, but for a novice like me it showed that I actually could get up and ride on a board with no bindings. That motivated me to buy a real skate.
Not only that, but my girlfriend rode it too and liked it much better than wakeboarding (said the bindings were too painful) so I got her a skate too.
Unfortunately, it was pretty late in the year so I haven't had many opportunities to ride my skate. But you better believe it will be seeing some use in the coming season.
I say that if you have an old board laying around anyway, go for it. Better than just letting it sit around and collect dust. |

| We used an old wakeboard without binding as a "wakeskate" before I got one. It was pretty slippry and not that fun. A cheap skate is a much better option |

I know one guy who rides an old waketech (120 cm) wakeboard as his skate. He put clear gripe tape on the top and he swears by it. Hes pretty good too, definetely a wake to wake style rider over flip tricks and lip tricks. If thats your riding style, then it would work out, but if you are into flats tricks or whatever, I dont know how well it would work.
Haha funnier part of that dude's set up is he rides in those grandma slide on shoes that look like slippers. |
