Of course I'm Greek. Loved it, would do it again.

I would like to take a second to thank Chi Omega and Alpha Chi Omega for their obvious standards of high quality tail.....and having houses on opposite sides of the Sig house. People ask how I know there is a God.....well my friends, there is your answer.

muckmeister said it best. I don't need to pay for my friends. And I sure as hell am not paying to be belittled some by some a-hole who thinks he's lord of the manor.

Not hatin on you either E.J. But down here in the south, fratboys are lower than dogshiiit on my shoe, in my opinion. Cool

No offense Haugy.

Again, there are many misconceptions on what is going on there. I never needed to buy friends. I would not submit myself to many of the things people assume happens. I am not naive enough to assume this stuff doesn’t happen, but I do not think it is the norm.

Not hear to convince anyone, again just stating that I am not at all ashamed about being a Sigma Chi and would do it all over again if given the chance.

If people don’t like guys that are in fraternities, great…. There are people I didn’t like in college as well. However, if they don’t like someone “because” they are in a fraternity, well…..that is fairly shallow…..and maybe they need to look at what inside of them is behind all that.

E.J., I think it is the other way around.

EXAMPLE,

Since I wasnt geek, I couldn't go to frat parties period. If a geek went to a regular house party they were not only let in but welcomed.

I never pick or picked friends due to their associations, beliefs, religion etc. I have the most diverse group of friends you could imagine.

I was discriminated against in hs for many reasons. mainly because I had a huge mohawk. I would never pick my friends based on their affiliations with anything except NAMBLA!

I was also hated by the administration because I played varsity hockey my freshman year. YES, the first day I wore that jersey to school, I was immediately ostracized because the hockey team was viewed as a bunch lunatics.

These large groups and institutions will only accept you if you follow their lead, do not deviate, for you will be banished!

How would your brothers treat you if you came back from summer break and turned into a GOTH?

When you say people joined because their brother did, that hits home. Not because I have a brother, but I had a minimum of five friends already at school that were Sigma Chi’s. When I went up, I was immediately hanging with them…. Which meant that I was hanging with the Sigs. Every one of them had their reasons for joining as well…..but the reasons were not to “buy friends.”

So rushing, pledging, going active and the like was just progression. I liked most the guys and have some lifelong friends that I met while in college(Sigs, other Greeks & GDIs) that I don’t see often, but when I do…..we catch right back up. I didn’t buy these friendships, I developed them.

Paying a nominal amount to be granted some of the opportunities that being a Sigma Chi afforded me was okay by me(best one was living in the Sig house, which when figured in, was just cheap rent). Or I should say was okay by my parents….. Whatever, if that bothers people….that is their deal, not mine.

Just thinking out loud.... Not taking any of it personal Muck....

Up in the North North too. I'd kick myself in the junk if I were in a frat.

Hey muck, you should've played varsity hockey up here. The little girlies stare at you like you're God's gift to God.

E.J., Like I said, I like everyone (so one mod said to me earlier this week) which is mainly true.

But dont kid yourself, if you were not greek you were not invited nor welcome at ANY Of their events, not that I wanted to go its just how it is.

And as long as you had a good experience then thats all that counts!

ontrider, our team was a club, we were not even in the yearbook, scores never announced on the speaker monday morning, no advertising of games etc.

WE WERE LARGER THAN ANY GOD!

Since it was not school sanctioned, other than the police at the games, they were free for alls!

It was crazy! I pulled a 1.5 my first semester of hs, not good playing two varsity sports your freshman year. I thought I was graduating in 7 months!

College, I vowed not to make the same mistake, pulled a 3.8 and my parents thought I altered the report card! They called the school to verify!

They would probably haze me and tell me I'm a phucking fruitcake. On the flip side, I have a lifelong friend that I have played ball with from Jr. High through Jr. College. Our families hang on a regular basis and now our kids are growing together. He was never involved in a fraternity.

If he showed up to my house wearing a cop 'stache....I would haze him and call him a phucking fruitcake until I could get him to cut it.

People have never had to be greek to hang with me Muck.... But they couldn't have a cop 'stache.... Wink

Two of my good friends, went from high school to college, were Sigs and both engineers now. But Hell....I was an athlete and just happy to get out with a degree. It was not until I came to the realization that I could not make a living being an athlete that I decided education was actually worth something besides a reason to stay eligible. As God as my witness, that day I called my parents, told them that I was transferring and ask if it was okay if they paid for my education(I was on scholarship prior).

E.J., again not a personal attack, I too am just stating my side.

I had a roomate my fresh year. He pledged Sigma Chi as it would be (later became pres of it too). When he told me what he went through, I felt sorry for him. He enjoyed it, but I could tell he was being brutalized. Sometimes people were invited to watch the insanity. When I saw my roomie being tortured in a many different ways. I couldn't figure it out. Why would you have to subject yourself to something like this to "create a stronger brotherhood" ?

Life experiences create bonds, not torturing them.

I just don't understand it. And when I say "buy your friends" I am not kidding down here. Being in a frat is 15% more than tuition per semester. We are talking about thousands of dollars a semester. And most don't even live in the house.

If you'll see the other post, you will also see why I don't like frat boys. Most of them are cowards.

I just read in Playboy the Chico State or wherever it was Fraternity death by water intoxication. Yea, it is crazy what some people go through.

I can say this; I just never experienced anything that I would consider humiliating or brutal. Maybe Sigma Chi at USU was out of the norm, but I would assume it was the norm and there are some crazy people out there and that is what gets the pub.

Our dues were nowhere close to that, though I am not here to condemn what someone pays.

Again, I say you have to look at each individual, not because they belong to a fraternity.

Rollins College, as school of 1300 undergrad and 5 frats, and 4 sororities, do you really need to join one to have friends come on.... its pathetic, but hey gives me someone to laugh at and piss of.

JV, LOOK AT YOUR CITY FOO! You Texans are sooo caught up in college sports it is funny!

Since posting on this site, I have become more tolerant of Texans and actually like a few now! You included! Laughing

I worked with a bunch of dudes from Houston, they hung a huge TEXAS flag over my desk! This is a long running joke with me!

muckmeister, I've only lived in Texas for 2 and a half years...yet I'm still contemplating how to best kill you. I can only imagine what JT would do to you if you called Vince Young a glorified running back or something.

I hate Peyton Manning with a passion and I'm a big Grossman fan, but I'm Colts fan numero uno this weekend just so I can log in Monday and witness the destruction of muck.

just kidding.....kind of Laughing

JV, JT knows all about my hate for college sports, in fact we discussed it earlier this week again!

And I hope he remembers my disdain for TX.

So you left the T and yet still post it as your city? Are still there? Where did you come from and dont say your mom.

I have been asking for a beating this week for sure!
