keep your arms straight, line tight and the board in frount of you in the water when the boat starts to pull you, don't turn the board too quickly and don't try to musscle your way up just resist back so the boat dosn't pull you foward onto your toes then face down in the water again. once you feel your self plain on top of the water then you can start to sink your tail end and turn the board.

getting up is diffrent for everyone some people get up right away others have trubble (i was one of the ones that had trubble) just relax, have fun and don't give up

Best way I can describe to get up from a newb.

Squat down on the board as low as you can go.
Hold the handle up to your chin. Do not hold the handle down by the board or you will just submarine.
Now when the boat takes off. Keep the handle chin level and try to stand up. Push the board out. If everything works perfectly you should be up and planing rather quickly.

Once you get it its like riding a bike you can do it just about everytime.

Your hips need to be the part of your body that rises. If your shoulders go up first, you'll keep doing what I call the pancake, where you just get flopped onto your other side. Everything centers around your hips in wakeboarding, keep the handle at your front hip and you'll do fine

Go under the trick tips option in the homepage, then click on surface tricks. I think it'll say something in there

You guys are making this complicated and confusing for a newbie. I went through the same thing on this board last year- lots of confusing or bad advice, and I didn't know how to search to find all the old messages. I finally found someone who kept it simple for me. Sometimes it is easy to forget how complicated all of this can be for someone who has no idea what it feels like to get up on a board for the first few times.

Givin it a Go, it is simple if you follow all of these steps:
1. Keep your knees bent. Picture yourself as a baseball catcher squatting down, but laying on your back a bit instead of putting all your weight on your feet like a catcher would. You are a catcher, but the pitcher is not in front of you-he's dropping the ball on you from the sky.
2. When the boat starts to pull, continue squatting and let the board touch your butt as you are laying back. Try to pull your toes up toward your knees so that the board will stay at the proper angle. The board must stay in front of you until you get it to plane. DO NOT straighten your legs. DO NOT pull on the rope or do anything to fight against the pull of the boat, other than leaning your body back and keeping your hips closer to the boat than your shoulders (see #4).
3. Keep your arms straight and have the driver drag you up more slowly than when you are skiing. DO NOT have him "punch it" to jerk you out of the water. Have him find a way to start you off a little slower, and then when he sees your head come up he can speed up more quickly and get it close to 20 MPH.
4. Use the board like the center point of a teeter totter. Imagine that you are standing on the edge of a cliff on the board, and the rope is what you are using to either let yourself go backward and fall, or pull up and balance on the edge of the cliff. Like LakeIolaLuke says, the hips are what should rise up first-then your shoulders. Otherwise, you will just go over the front and get a big drink of water.
5. Once you get up on a plane, you could continue to squat and keep the board sideways all day so DO NOT stand up right away. Let yourself get up on a nice plane and let the boat get some speed. THEN flip to regular riding position.

Good luck. I had a ton of trouble getting up because I kept straightening my legs, pulling the rope, and generally just fighting the boat like I was trying to get up on a slalom. Once I realized it was more like getting up on 2 skis, and that I would be fine as long as I kept my knees bent and the board in front of my hips, it was easy.

When I first started, I had read and been told about all of this keeping the board perpendicular to the boat business, as described above as the "easiest" way.

I tried this about 4 times and got nowhere. Then I tried as if I were riding a slalom ski and got up first time , and have never failed at getting up since.

All I'm saying is there is more than one way to get up, and no particular way is better than others for everyone. Maybe the sideways way works for lots of people but not me.

Very true, abrider. I'm not saying my way is the only way, just that it was what worked for me. My brother, who learned at the same time as me, does it completely different. Somehow, he actually holds the board up and down like a slalom ski and just starts out riding regular from the deep water. I have no idea how he does it, but he gets up most times this way.

I made him try my way just to convince him it was easier and less tiring. He did it and agreed, but still likes his way better.

the main thing is too lean back while you get up if that is the problem.

another thing to think about, dont pull the handle do your chest. In your mind your thinking your pulling it to your chest but actually your pulling your chest to the handle. Do you really think your pulling a 2,000 pound boat closer to yourself? no. This will cause you to never get up. Always keep your arms straight as hell and resist it goin up. Pull back against the pull of the boat with your shoulders and what not
