My old F-150 just couldn't cut it. It was too small, too weak, and just wasn't getting the job done.

So I have stepped it up. It's kinda big, but hey no more people cutting my ass off anymore. Twisted Evil

Here's some crash test footage, I think it'll hold up just fine. Cool

Driver: "What was that?"
Passenger: "What was what?"
Driver: "Did you feel something?"
Passenger: "No"
Driver: "Ok, do-dee-do"

haugy, the original f150's were extremely dangerous, so ford changed the orginal f150 and still continued to offer the old f150 for less creating a huge outcry.

muckmeister, what the hell are you talking about? There was nothing dangerous about the old (97-03) F150 - no more so than any other vehicles out there.

What model years are you referring to?

chavez, 80's to early 90's

there was a huge dateline/60 minute program about them.

how it is was the most popular but also the most dangerous and ford made changes but still offered the old one.

I cant google right, but check consumer reports, or ralph Nader crap for info on this.
Might have been as recent as 2003 as well.

muckmeister, why?

Because they sold like mad to fleet buyers and it was relatively cheap. Not to mention they were rock solid reliable.

IIRC, the program was about the side saddle style tanks they had back then. If impacted right, they could explode, no? It was one of those, "yeah it could happen, but the odds are not high" situations. Also, IIRC, Dateline purposely rigged the test to force the outcome, right?

This isn't the only examples of a "dangerous" vehicles that was sold despite the issues.

IIRC there was a study done on 97-03 F-150's and their front impact crash rating did suck. Look like a gorilla grabbed a beer can.

I have an 05 muck, they have done much better on the safety ratings. But again, that's why I wanna go with the Euclid. Twisted Evil

haugy, did they offer the old version in 02 and 03? that was the main issue with ford, they made the vehicle safer, but still offered the old one.

I wish I could find the exact program and or article,

I just want you to be safe at lunch! Laughing Laughing Laughing

Hollywood, straight up Pinto style!

haugy, yeah most of those tests are pretty ghey. They score low, but the circumstances are biased towards lower profile vehicles.

What they should do, it take the most popular car of the time, and slam that into the other car. Take a Camry or a Taurus, slam the F150 into it at 40mph, and I'd be willing to bet the wreck would look a heck of a lot different.

Not many folks run their vehicles into a 5ft tall immovable object at 40.

muckmeister, The new bodystyle came out in 2004. At that time they still had tons of older bodystyle 2004's on deck, and the parts to keep building more.

They dubbed the old bodystyle the "Heritage", and yes sold them at a discount. Tons of companies picked them up.
