|
|
Well I'm thinking about installing a ballast system in my boat over the next little while. I've searched this site and the web for info and came up with this
http://www.wakeworld.com/Articles/2001/BallastSystem1.asp
I was wondering if anyone is familiar with this article and or the system they use in it?
I am considering going with schematic C in the article, which uses a single reversing pump, off the raw water intake, to 3 bags. I am starting with 3 250lb sacs, 2 in the back, 1 up front.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to a cost effective pump? I've looked at the jabscos what other names are there?
Any other advice would be greatly appreciated. _________________ KEEP ON KEEPIN IT ON! |

Some pros and cons of reversible pump systems -
they're slow
they're loud
they draw alot of current (run big wires please)
they've been known to jamb upon reversing, so make your pumps accessible so you can lube them.
Jabscos can be mounted anywhere as they are iginition protected, Simers need to be isolated from any spark as they are not
If you check here on the forum myself and others have fairly complete lists of parts for just about everything....feel free to pm or e-mail me - I have an 8 pump, 3000 lb. four-sac system wit hfill times of about 3 minutes. _________________ just broad reachin' thru life... |

Just use a Simer pump, they're A LOT cheaper than the Jabsco, but will do the job just as well. To reverse them just wire them backwards for the empty. Ignition protection isn't somthing that you should worry about unless you are mounting the pump directly on the engine. _________________ Neuston Boards

I agree, the reversible system is easier to install.... _________________ just broad reachin' thru life... |

Okay, I've got the floor out of my boat, and think I've decided on a pump.
http://www.depcopump.com/datasheets/jabsco/18220-1121.pdf
My questions are 1st does it matter were the pump is is situated in relation to the water source, or the bags? (pump in bow, bags in stern?).
Also does it matter were the lines are run in relation to the pump or bag entry/exit openings?
And last I' ve found 2 thru hull connections. The 2 are connected and then lead into the motor. Is it normal to have 2 thru hulls to cool the motor?Heres a pic! Thanks _________________ KEEP ON KEEPIN IT ON! |
