I think that I'm ready for a new job. The only that sucks about it is the economy here in Austin is crap right now. If anyone knows a cool job out there in the ATX let me know. Anyone else want a new job, if you love your job what do you do?

you know, sometimes I think about going back to school and getting a second degree in Architecture. I'm a Survey Technecian for an Surveying/Engineering firm here in Austin, and I love what I do...( I take the information my field crew guys get for me, do a bunch of anaylisis, do some math, put em in a computer, and make em' look pretty for our clients. Have you heard of Circle-C, well my company did that!!! Shoot, my boss helped layout 360 bridge) it's just that, well...who knows. I can't quit now, I make good money. But damn, I'm good at designing houses and stuff. I have 4 that I have drawn in 3-D in AutoCAD here at work, and am thinking of selling my plans over the interenet.

But I hear ya B-rad, are we stuck doing this for the rest of our lives, or are we destined to do something else....

I don't know where to begin about me not liking my job, but I am paid more than what I can make in an entry level job with my degree. I want a new job but is hard to find someone who will pay me.
Sad

I think I have gotten to the point that I would go to an entry level something for 34K...

I sooo want a new job. I love the field that I am in, but the current job that I have sucks! The worst part is I have been layed of because of budget cuts twice in the last year, and I know it is going to happen again soon, but the economy here in the NE is making it really difficult for me to find a job that I wont have to move out of the area for.

True, true fellas.....My job is o.k. I get tons of freedom, just got 'promoted' if you call it that, just got a corner cube(with a window!!!!), but I can only analyze so much marketing info, come up with so many sales plans/proposals and can only prospect so much. Pay is marginal, but I've been told by the man the future will be good to me, So I'll stay put.

But, I'd much rather post on here, spend countless days on the boat, sell WB accessories to dealers and let the old lady pay the bills Laughing Laughing

I love my job, I'm a scientist at a pharmaceutical company. What I do can be routine, but it's the thought process that stimulates me. Like when I'm analyzing different compounds I'll have discussions about secondary or tertiary structure of the compound & how that affects receptor binding; you know, nerd stuff. But I like it so no complaints.

I have no clue what I want to do. Depending on what happens with my school situation I may get a job working for some state politicians. See if I like that. If not I have no idea what I want to do. Designing houses seems like fun but my degree won't work there.

If you're miserable in your current job and single, capable of moving ~ just do it.
A lot of people here know that I recently relocated to central FL.
I had been working for an HMO in CA for the past 7.5 yrs and the last 5yrs were the most gut wretching times of my life. I made excellent money and was guaranteed a raise ( min 5%) every year. Didn't have to pay for any Medical Benes( major plus in this world), but I was under the Rule of Dictator Lard Butt, who tried to control me professionally and personally.
But I took a 30k paycut Crying or Very sad ( but it will catch up in the near future). Work longer hours, I'm doing much more interesting work, couldn't ask for a much friendlier working environment , great employer and have more opportunities to wakeboard. Laughing
Sometimes you just have to bite the bullet and take chances.
