Grip for sure. A lot of people prefer it over foam because it gives you that true "skate" feel. I personally love grip, but you have a couple of those times when you shin or your arm gets raped from the burns. But all in all, grip dominates foam IMO.

Foam and grip have advantages and disadvantages.
Foam is easier for beginners and a nicer board to have in the boat. Anyone can use it with or without shoes and beginners are not scared of it. Plus, it won't tear up your upholstery. Some people just prefer the feel of foam as well. Grubb rips it up on a foam gripped skate (among others).
Grip is a nicer transition from skateboarding because it has the same skate feel and response. Many skateboarders feel foam is too cushioned and takes away from the response. Grip in fact does make initiating harder flip and shuv tricks easier.

yea grip, i got a board with foam because of the "beginners like foam, and it doesn't hurt" but that didn't matter. The board never really hit me when I fell, and being a skateboarder myself, the grip was very familiar.

Along the lines of what HHI Dave posted, couldn't foam boards be gripped in the areas where you need it? Just cut/peel it off and then lay down some grip tape.

foam for beginners especially if your not used to skatedboarding, can use shoes or no shoes

grip better performance but can get some bad scratches better if your used to that skateboard feel

hyperlite58, buy two skates, two skates are still less than one wakeboard with bindings.

Use them both, see what you like, and sell the other one or have two for the hell of it.

I ride mainly on grip, but I do love riding barefoot and have one foam for those times and when newbs want to try it.

Nick Taylor, that's nothing. I wipe my ass with steel wool and clean the wounds with lemon juice.
